A good cigar will solve all your problems. Is that a pair of eyes next to Marx?

I think that Marx threw the match at the eye.

Is that a peace sing in the eye or possibly “Rodger Rabbit” paying a visit?

I think Marx is proving to himself that the eye isn’t really there, it is just an illusion. The “I” is playing tricks.

Marx lights the cigar and turns his back on the eye, making the “V” sign with his left hand. The match and flame are also frozen in time. Judging by the relative sizes of the reflections, it appears to be fairly close to the eye. I think the sort of comma shaped bright areas above the fingers might be reflections of smoke (which one can see in panels two and three).

Like Jules Magret, Marx uses a match, not a lighter, to light his cigar. Old school.

Marx wants to be the “Light” in it’s eye! ( I tried…)

Light so that the Eye doesn’t have to languish in darkness?

It looks like Marx is leaving the Eye to burn. Can it be destroyed? Will this whole reality be destroyed along with it, leaving only those characters the Marxes have saved? That is certainly a contemptuous gesture he’s making as he leaves.

I think this maybe an ‘Anybody got a light?’ moment. Marx, this version interfered maybe? Possibly at great cost and this is the end of his story. And it was this exact moment Wally was dreaming about.

Marx hand sign is an F U. Look close….his back is to Eye. So that is the rude sign. The match is frozen in time just like the folks he’s collecting.

Marx has apparently met this entity before, after all. “God” seems to be subject to time in this reference frame/reality, just like everything else in it, even the flame. So — it’s not really the God, and probably not even a god. My theory: there is something flammable in the room that is going to blow up the moment time flows again. Which would be ironic considering that’s how “God” destroyed Unity.

And Marx’s final gesture: peace out.

On further analysis this does seem like an FU.

The match hangs there floating in the air with an enraged ‘I’ frozen but conscious. Left there to mock it.

No matter how much it destroys. No matter how many lives it devours… The light of hope will still shine. And ‘I’ in all its vileness will be powerless to stop it. It will be pitiful and forever alone.

I think Marx is going to do a ‘three stooges’ eye poke. Like a defibrillator, maybe it will disrupt Eye’s disordered thinking and get to start organized thinking.

Actually, in panel four it looks like Marx is walking away, you can see the two buttons on the back of his coat. The match looks like it’s falling to the floor.

After thinking about these panels, all the discussions (comments), what the other Marxs’ are doing, and the calm demeaner of our favorite Marx, I have come to 2 conclusions. 1) Marx knows how to control/destroy “I” (whether in this reality or in all) and 2) I have no EFFEN idea where this is going.

If the match is stuck lit in time, when time resumes (if it does) that’s gonna hurt!
