The Rong-wing talking point seems to be that reforming the police (possibly from the ground up) and using some of the current funding to support programs which the police themselves would rather not be doing will stop them from doing anything useful. The reality is, of course, more nuanced. But Bok et al do not understand the word… or the concept.

More blacks will be killed by criminals ? So take away Bok’s gun – That should bring the number down !

The uninformed preaching to the uneducated, right Chip? Isn’t that your target audience?

Black communities in many instances don’t call the police because the results are worse than handling the crimes themselves. If Chip would get out of his conservative funded gated community and take a look at the real world, he’d find his boring b.s. cartoons don’t quite match up.

Has anyone pointed out to that we don’t pay criminals to kill indiscriminately, but that we have been paying the police for decades while they do so. In other words, when the police are doing their job correctly, THEN they can complain. Until then – DEFUND THEM and use the money for the hospitals that will have to save us from their uncontrolled misuse of power.

While we all know Chip is making a hit on police defunding, this also shows a basic misunderstanding of the overall concept. Defund Police doesn’t mean eliminate police, just reallocate funds to social workers who will do the kind of work that the police were never designed to do. Police personnel have often complained that they are called upon to handle social work along with their standard policing duties. Now is the time to give that social work to those trained for it.

I too in recent weeks have become critical of the BLM movement! Black folks will march, protest and even vandalize our own areas when a White cop kills a Black man, but won’t raise an eyebrow when a Black person kills another Black person! I’ve said this over and over that Black people should go back and listen the words of Malcolm X when he said: “…Instead of getting White people to respect us, we need to learn how to love and respect OURSELVES!”

This is simply not true. On many levels. Firstly, as sevaar777 says, many black communities don’t call the cops because their experience with cops is universally bad. They often don’t come to their aid at all, and when they do, it’s often only to make things worse. Just had a conversation with a 78-year-old black friend who said they will never trust the police because they’ve had a long lifetime of abuse, harassment, and unhelpfulness. The second lie in this is that defunding the police means having no police. It means making the police remember that it’s the community that decides what the police do, not the other way around. Some communities simply fired the entire police force, decided what they really wanted in their police, and started over from scratch. That included plowing some of that police funding into social services that reduced crime without ever drawing a gun. THAT is what defunding the police means. And wherever it’s been done, crime goes down, and trust in police goes up.

I wish they would stop saying “Defund” when what they mean is “Reallocate some of the police funding”. Then we wouldn’t have so many ill-informed cartoons like this one.

I wish they would stop trying to rationalize the calls by insane revolutionaries to defund our police forces.

No, they are NOT calling for a subtle shifting of funds. The street is calling for the elimination of armed police forces.

Now, some of the government snakes are taking a “nuanced” approach by shifting some money over to “social services”, but the reality will be similar. Fewer police officers to serve the highest crime areas.

New York has already pulled what is probably the single most important unit off the street. The Street Crimes Unit was responsible for most of the illegal guns taken off the streets, along with arrests of the felons carrying them. The 2020 YTD murder rate in NYC has spiked almost 25% over 2019.

I have questions for all you fans of the social worker plan.

How long before they begin refusing to answer domestic dispute calls?

How many unarmed social workers will be assaulted, raped or killed before you realize that this idea is less than optimal?

It’ll be OK, Zuhl. Trump will win and the GOP may even take back the House. It would be wonderful to have 4 years without a witch hunt. We could make great strides in that time.
