Believe me Hobbes, if Calvin was a kid in today’s day and age, you’d be seeing way too much of him. Lord knows how his parents would deal homeschooling him during COVID-19. At least the teachers would get a break.
sad that calvin and hobbes ended before I was even born wish it would return as the new calvin and hobbes or a official hobbes and bacon or a spin off seris of susie and bun buns!!!!!!!!! sorry got a little crazy.
Often inspiration comes when you need it the least. If Calvin turned in that poem for class he would probably get an A or at least not a trip to the principles office.
As an experiment, I connected a variable transformer to my cat’s heated bed on a cold day. When I turned the voltage down, she assumed a tight, posture becoming a little globe of minimum heat radiation. When I turned it up she gradually stretched out long and thin like Hobbes. Amazingly homeothermic. When she was a kitten, she carefully did experiments on me to see how much claw pressure was necessary to get my attention.
Today’s strip reminds me of what state and school board is deciding, when do kids go back, where I live that is being decided, Governor here states after Labor Day, school my state usually middle of August. Means school next year will end much later, depends of breaks. COVID been bad.

Hobbes is looking forward to pouncing on Calvin when Calvin comes home from school.

Plenty of time to surprise attack him, Hobbes. What are you waiting for?

Doggerel (Tigerel?) … or poetical? The rhyme scheme is pretty complex for doggerel, but the subject matter is pretty silly for real poetry.

A six-year-old who uses words like ‘construed’ and ‘passé’ probably doesn’t need school.

Poor Hobbes, he doesn’t know that in 2020 it is unlikely that school will open up.

Hobbes must put up with a lot during the summer. He could join the Toy Story gang.

Many cartoonists like to add an occasional bit of verse to a strip…
Some of them are pretty good at it, some make me cringe…
if not for their bad rhymes, for the meter.
Watterson is the best I’ve seen… at least, that I can remember.
He rhymes complicated words very well, and it all scans.
I could nitpick over “snug,” which ought to be “snugly,”
but not much rhymes with that…
and it’s supposed to be coming from a six-year-old, anyway.
Too bad he’ll probably never see my “Bravo!”

I’m sure, dear Hobbes, that question lingers in the minds of many parents these days.

Good chance school will be virtual. They will have lots of quality time to share.

Hobbes wonders when school starts. This summer, we ALL wonder when school will start. Did Hobbes foresee COVID19? No political comments please.

Calvin’s vocabulary is astounding. I wonder how he manages without being attentive in the class. A born literary wizard.
