Go ahead, latently racist conservatives, and tell us how evil getting rid of the statues of traitors is. And how socially conscious Americans are as bad as the worst terrorists in history.
Go ahead, I dare you to admit how much you truly suck.
If you’re fond statues of “important” figures in our nation’s (or the confederate’s) history… They’re probably available real cheap, for a short time only…
While the confederates have needed removal for some time, I see we are now going after ‘any’ statue of anyone who ever did anything of worth for this country. So are we going to pull down Alexander Graham Bell and lynch him on a telephone pole? I hope not.
History should be preserved, as a lesson of both right an wrong, but the wrong can be preserved without honoring the evil. Going back to the 18th century culture, and comparing it to the mid-19th is ignoring the true history of this nation, and the CHANGE we did make. Even though some today still seem to resent those changes for the better.
There is a difference between honoring national heroes and using symbols/statues of a failed effort to preserve slavery as a means of intimidating/demeaning descendants of slaves.
I would think that mount Rushmore would stay the same.
Both George and Thomas were indeed slaveholders, BUT at least each freed those slaves in their will.
To an extent, both of these men might possibly have tried to make e better existence for their slaves. TJ, of course, impregnated one, but it seems to have been a tryst, TJ ever the experimentalisst. JMHO, but I think these two founders were trying to shield their slaves against a system they could not single handedly overcome back in the 18th Century…..
What I am trying to say is that it’s a proper and easy call to rip down statues of Andrew Jackson and John Calhoun. TJ & GW, not so clear-cut, given their additional legacies.
All statues — especially those belonging to government — should be removed. Not necessarily destroyed, but if displayed, displayed as “historical” artifacts in museums.
Because… statues are glorification of individuals, a form of personality cult. And the erection of these statues has not only been person-worship of the individuals, but promotion of the concept of the personality cult as a “good” thing.
Take down and relocate confederate statues and monuments but do it legally. Leave the others alone. Defacing and tearing down statues of Washington, Jefferson and whoever is next, not to mention the vandalizing of WWII memorials, is just making people angry. But the American version of the Red Guard wants their own cultural revolution. Mao was a great guy, so why not?
Now some bernie bro staffer/BLM marxist wants all images of Jesus removed if he is portrayed as white. So, people who don’t believe in God and abhor religion now want to dictate how those religions portray Jesus? Those statues, paintings, stained glass windows, etc. are generally not public property and they are artistic representations. I’m sure these same people had no problem with the work of art “piss Jesus” because it’s somebody’s artistic right to create that. I’m personally offended by it but I’m not going to tell you it needs to be removed, destroyed and the artist beaten.
Where does it end? Well, in my opinion, it’s already gone too far and it’s not over yet.
Education is the solution.. tearing down statues is not. Every last one of us is alive today because of the sins of our forefathers so it is somewhat hypocritical to demand history be removed. Learn about the past but move on.

Not a statue, but I know something that needs burning. Ever American flag with trumps face printed on them.
Someone should read trump and his cult The American Flag Code, right after they read them the constitution.

Beau of the Fifth Column has a video called, “Let’s talk about which statue is next…” It’s worth the nine minutes to watch.

Changing the artifacts of our culture could help us change and clarify our focus. It’s worth a shot!

The Herculean task will be to topple the mindset that erected them in the first place.

And I suppose Ariail is in favor of keeping the statues of King George? The founding fathers thought they could, but I guess Robert wouldn’t.

In my experience, it’s definitely not!

Did you see the protesters tried to destroy the statue of Jackson in Layfeyette Park?
The WH lights were turned off, that means Bunker Baby Trump went to ground again.

Somewhere along the lines one of those dominoes MUST lead to that Trump guy.

Jesus was not a blonde headed, blue-eyed white person. I agree, remove them all.
