A long time ago, I went to work for a (now defunct) hospital here in Minnesota. Across the street was a chain restaurant known as Embers (yes, they showed them in the movie “Fargo”)… they used to advertise on late night TV their “Steak and Eggs Combo” for only $3.99 (!)…
I found out HOW they could do it: the “steak” was three little pieces of meat strung together by gristle. The rest was all the cheaper stuff in a “breakfast” combo… What a rip-off :-P
We went to a steak house in a Kansas meatpacking town that had no steaks. Most suppliers deliver on a cash only basis. We spent 20 minutes with the waitress and manager doing Monty Python’s Cheese Shop sketch with the menu.
