(I hope it’s OK that I call you Jan ~ I feel like I know your family better than I know my own)
I kind of think we have two more weeks to enjoy your art and wit. I expect we’re going to get one more “gotta love August” cartoon.
But I didn’t want to miss the opportunity to say, thank you for sharing your talent! I feel I could have been a cartoonist if I had the discipline. Also, I would need to be able to come up with a basic idea, a new story to build on that idea at regular intervals, a sense of humour, enough empathy to keep the readers interested, and the ability to draw a straight line (with or without a ruler). But other than that….
But what I really really want to say to you is, can I have Alix’s magical pool after the strip is done? Pleeeeeze?
This Stone Soup Retirement Victory lap is a little self-indulgent. Neither Peanuts nor Calvin & Hobbes spent this much time congratulating themselves, and Stone Soup is way, way below them in quality.
I’m living too long! I’m outliving everything / everyone I care for. I hope this is just another shtick or another story bringing the cartoonist into the strip. Wouldn’t that be a gas?
A few other cartoonists have also retired recently. I guess this pandemic has given us all a chance to evaluate our lives. Thanks for saying goodbye to your characters and not just disappearing overnight. Good luck in all you do!
Over the years, several comic strips have gone from daily to weekly. What about monthly? Or simply now and then, whenever the mood strikes you to share something new with your fans?
No reply needed. If it happens, I’ll be delighted. If not, there are still many other things for me — and for you — to enjoy. 8^)
Thanks for the big lead-in to the grand finale next week. It’s nice to have some notice, instead of being shocked the last day. I’ll miss Stone Soup, but look forward to reading the reruns. Can’t wait for the big finish, too.

to bad, git a good comic and they go and retire. It`s like heart of the city change things and ruin the comics.
