i guess he is an idiot cause no sane guy would want to marry anyone who would fake something like that. at least not anyone i know and Most Certainty Not Me either
I can see tomorrows comic going like this “trust is important to me, if i can’t trust you, i can’t be with you. Please pack your stuff and leave.” then ann sees another shock when she finds all her clothes on the front yard being picked over.
Now let’s see if Ann looses it or holds her cool. Next up will be Tom asking Tiff exactly what’s been happening to her in regards to Ann and what Ann was telling her. Want to lay odds that Ann set up Tiff’s new credit card to skim money between Tom and Tiff?
That look on her face gave me the same uncomfortable feeling you get when finally catching a rat in a trap and he gives a last twitch and looks at you as he dies.
IS THAT ALL THERE IS!?!?!?!?!? There better be something more than that (even though it looks like he tore her finger off). I want to see a stern “Get out!” from Tom and Ann blow up and make threats. Then I want to see an apology from father to daughter!
Unless Tom know of another time she deceived him, I hope this is just a pause in their engagement to check things out. 1. Everyone deserves one mistake, 2. Ann would have to be wonderful to Les and Tiff, 3. It would be good to see if she would at least try to improve.
Ann confesses to her lie and Tom gets his ring back. And Tom never once raised his voice. Good for him! Tom has got a whole lot of “making up” to do to his daughter. And Tom? You might want to thank that young man standing at Tiffany’s side. He’s had your daughter’s back for last couple years, when you didn’t. And there’s a good chance you’ll be seeing a lot of him in the years to come.
In the middle picture, Ann has 3 full-sized fingers and a stump, which is adorned with her engagement ring. While I don’t remember a damaged digit being part of her backstory, I appreciate the homage to the character Juan Chicoy, in John Steinbeck’s, “The Wayward Bus.” Nice literary reference, G&K.
Last question for tonight: With Ann apparently going down in flames right now, what are G&K going to do with that tile down below – you know, the one that gives Ann top billing?
I don’t think I’ve ever seen Ann’s eyes open in surprise. Wooo. And, Tiff, TELL dad about your credit cards. It’s a good bet Ann still has them and will use them to finance her departure from McMansion and her next scam. You will want your dad to call the bank and freeze or close them to cut Ann off.
Technically, it’s true. If the guy does the breakup, she keeps the ring. If she does the breakup, she gives it back. That IS tradition. However….I think it since she tried to trap him, I could consider it reasonable for her to give back the ring in this case. Unless he just takes it off to signify they are broken up, then puts it back in her hand…..
Ann’s pitch was really feeble and added insult to injury. A sterner try would be something like, “Tom, we’ve been together two years. I really wanted to get married!”
When the man breaks the engagement, the woman keeps the ring; When the woman breaks the engagement, the woman returns the ring. Any lawyer should know that.
Actually it’s kinda sad. I had hoped Ann could be redeemed in the hope of a new baby. So many weeks, we’ve been waiting, for ….what? To no one coming out of this unscathed and hopeful? Yeah, unfollow.
Allright! Ann Eiffel is speechless! Looks like Tom has an IQ higher than your typical salad bar. My fear is that this is wayyyyy too easy! Ann is not going to go away without a fight, not sure what she can do but she definitely going to want revenge on Tiff. Tiff must feel like a million bucks after all the turmoil evil Ann has put her through since the Souffle lingerie scandal! Hopefully all is well now but I just have this lingering thought that getting rid of Ann is like trying to get rid of Michael Myers in Halloween or Freddy Krueger on Elm Street!
ATTA BOY, TOM!!!!! Throughout this whole debacle, your intelligence had me scared, but it’s SUCH a relief to see you are not THAT blinded by love. The best part is she keeps exposing herself as a manipulative con artist. Sooner or later, she WILL be behind bars.
You GO BOY (Referring to Tom)! Now, follow through and dismiss her from your life and property. And reconcile with your daughter! We shall see. Brewing the coffee for Mordy!
So, is it for real? Is Tom going to take back control from this slickster, or is Ann going to slime her way out of this and walk away with the back of her hand across Tiffany’s face?
Why is Ann such a comic supervillain when she’s so stupid? She could have faked tears and pretended to be sorry, which might have worked. Instead, she decides the best tack is to pretend that faking a pregnancy is just a “little fib.”
And just consider this: there’s a fair chance that Tiffany wouldn’t have cared all that much about Ann moving in, so long as her allowance money kept coming in. Ann’s spiteful pettiness gained her an enemy needlessly, an enemy with a HUGE interest in foiling her plans. Moral: FIRST you score the touchdown, THEN you do the endzone dance. And if you win, be satisfied with winning — rubbing it in is not only uncouth, it can also be dangerous.
And the captain makes a serious course correction saving all the occupants from certain doom in cascading over the eminent danger of the waterfalls ahead! Then all the occupants gave a collective sigh of relief as the threat was no more!
There was a chance Tiffany could have let her Dad be happy with loving Ann. But she saw the scammer at work again and had to act. Bravo for Tiffany for not letting Ann get away with it this time. Now to see if Dad will keep on track with kicking Ann out, cancelling her credit cards, thanking Tiffany, and returning her life to normal financially so she can stay on track at college. No kid should have to worry about where to live and pay the college bills, especially one in her situation.
a ‘little fibb’? I’m pregnant! bringing a life into the world? was a little fib? as usual Ann’s inability to have a back up plan blows up- we just have to wait until saturday to see her get the boot.
Actually etiquette dictates that if an engagement is broken the ring goes back to the giver. If a marriage is broken the ring is kept by the bride.I don’t know where you all got the dumb notion that the fiancée keeps the ring of an engagement is broken.
Now will Tiff grow up a bit to realize, yes it’s OK for dad to pay for tuition, but she doesn’t need a private dorm room, credit card maxed out with too many clothes, and she really needs to put a strong effort in learning.
Realizing here father’s value to her is him, not his money.
now the question becomes, will Tiffs life style return? Or did Tom learn something about women taking advantage of him? This could get REALLY intersting.
Hallelujah! Yesssss! Now get those credit cards and checkbook! For those who say the ring is her’s, I say it was ill-gotten goods and needed to be returned to the rightful owner. The look on her face is almost as good as when Nancy spilt water on her! She should go out the same way she came in, without anything. Unless they can prove fraud, then handcuffs would be nice. :-)
Well, this gets her out of his life, but you know she’s going to spend a lot of time thinking up ways to get back at Tiffany and Les. Honestly, Greg, can’t you just let her plane go down in the Arctic or something? Or how about prison? Can we just get her a nice long stint in jail somehow? You kicked Delta out of the strip without a blink, why not Ann?
Much celebration, a few holding their breath; I’m just going to wait on the sideline. Still two more days for a something to happen that causes this to be a breaking ball. Also, even if it does conclude as it appears Ann is still out there able to cause confusion and hatred; the pause could be shorter than normal… Let’s hope Tiffany and Tom can find a a good path forward in the future and next week starts a new arc!
So… if this rather predictable outcome is the culmination of the arc…
1) Will Tom revert back to facelessness again after this and be back to a distant entity? Or will he stay face forward in future interactions and we will see him more in an interactive way with Tiffany?
2) Will Tiffany…. revert back to her old “kinda mean, rich-girl” persona now that she is not experiencing these various pressures from Ann or will she continue on her “path of awareness and growth” that much of this journey has lead her on?
3) Will Ann just poof disappear for who knows how long at this point…. or will she hang around and in some fashion continue to cause havoc… perhaps with Tom, perhaps with Tiffany, or perhaps with some other character?
4) Will Les express any sort of opinions on this outcome…. and if yes, to whom….. a) the general room, b) only Tiffany, or c) somewhere else?
However, the strip can’t completely get rid of Ann since she’s about the only real antagonist it has, so my guess is she’ll be back at some point to create more turmoil.
With all the talk about missing a finger, I went back and looked at the strip. I just realized in panels one and two, Ann is completely missing her mark’s body language.
It may be only Thursday, but break-ups have consequences. There has to be time for Ann to slap Tom in the face and make threats all of which will convince him that he made the right decision. Then there’s Tiff and Les. Without these two, especially Les who provided the evidence, Tom might have learned of Ann’s true stripes much later on and in a more costly and hurtful way. He truely dodged the bullet thanks to them.
The ring belongs to the person who gives the ring. And if the person breaks a vow before marriage it goes back to the giver if the giver wants it back.
1. On a futon -in Les and Gunter’s living room?2. Brother Al’s spare bedroom ..with the cat and kittens?3. Nancy DeGroot’s rental room (Nancy would need to quit work and keep an eye on Ann making moves on Frank)?4. Paris … working as a salesperson – selling REAL Souffle Lingerie?
YES! Get Ann’s lying butt out of your house Tom and maybe it’s time to let Tiffany move back in and also begin to perhaps help her financially. I did not read all the comments but it’s interesting to see how many this comic generates.
Ann is like a Florida Palmetto bug. They are vile creatures and you smack them hard with a flyswatter when you see one. But one swat does not kill it. It takes several swats to finish it off. It doesn’t give up easily.
I knew it. “Let’s get this crumby ol’ two-carat hunk of costume jewelry off your finger. We’re gettin’ you a REAL diamond, baby! This whole scheme just goes to show how devoted you are. Tiffany, tell your new mother you’re sorry for being so difficult.”
I am not going to get in that so far 93 response thread on the ownership of the ring, but I will say, based on being a lawyer and proud of it (like being a liberal or progressive, oh the horror!!) that a ring is a gift, and inter vivos transfer as it were. He can take it back, and she would be wasting her time trying to sue him, besides he is a lawyer, and given the money, he must be good. He does need some father training though. To me it’s thrilling to see Ann get her comeuppance, but I have two questions, one a caution. Will she be dangerous to Tiffany, who finally gets Ann in the most serious con she has ever run, or even Les (less likely), and two what will be the effect on the two kids whose relationship with their parents has been not the most healthy? Tom should put much more in his father-daughter relationship, if he did encourage or at least talk with his daughter about what is really happening with her, I bet any amount of bitcoin that she would do far better in college, and even be the svelte Tiffany that some are so obsessed with. It might even help Les, whose problem is as much, if not more, lack of a father figure (other than Uncle Al) as it is with a mother who abandoned him. To me that is the real story.
So will Les now go back to hitting on Tiff? Will Tom be against a relationship between his daughter and the progeny of “that woman”? Will Tiff and Les just stay really good friends since Tiff could have eyes for her former roommate’s quarterback boyfriend? Aaah, so many possibilities…
Tiff and Les are leaving the room to allow the couple a private moment. Might not be a good idea if it turns out he needs witnesses.
Someone else may have said this, been too many comments to wade through this week – have not seen the words “I’m sorry” come out of Ann’s mouth. Nope, not one. Just play the blame game.
Poor fellow. Poor Ann, destroyed by her own hatefulness and conniving. Poor Leslie, he just lost a potentially interesting step father.
Lucky Leslie, now he has a potentially interesting potential father-in-law. Lucky Tom, now he has a chance to find true love or at least something closer. Lucky Ann, now nobody has to push her out a window.
So will the extreme Ann haters get their wish: Friday Tom shoots her; Saturday he dumps Ann into the lake; and Monday we see Shannon directing Brad & TJ who are struggling to build her tree house. We are likely to have 700+ comments on today’s episode – so remember that Ann sells tickets, and we need to keep her around now & then.
Now that Ann is finally out of the way, I still hope Tom will find out about how Ann treated Tiffany. I really do hope he had no idea that Ann cut off Tiffany’s school funds. I also hope he praises her for the person she is becoming. I like the new Tiffany. She’s growing up and learning how to adult.
Well, this disaster for Tiffany’s drawing to a close. Guess we wait to see what Greg’s gonna dump on her next. Mebbe fall into a wood chipper while she’s walking by.
If she’s willing to lie about being pregnant, chances are she’ll lie about the baby being his. And perhaps he’s remembering other things she may have lied about… Things that Tiffany was trying to tell him about…
And now Tom will learn Ann has been stealing Tiffany’s credit card, room and board, and other money. But Tiffany will consider it a good lesson learned.
I’m not Emily Post, but what’s important here is that Tommy just pulled the plug on the marriage, and whoever wins the court fight over the ring and the engagement, Ann has to “naff off sharpish” as we say in the UK and NZ.
Here it is the evening of Ann’s demise and no comments from the wordsmith Mordock! Is he:A) In an airplane. B) In a Submarine. C) It’s been 10 years so time to check the plumbing as it were. D) Still in the process of writing his comment which he started on at 12 am.E) Hugging Greg and Karen, and, staying for dinner cuz they can’t shut him up.
I wouldn’t be surprised if she goes and gets a lawyer and says – Common Law Marriage – I want my part of the estate. Tommykins has crossed Evil Ann – bet she’s not done with him yet.
Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive.Ann, shrieking: “Tommy, how can you do this? You know I’ve given you the best years of your life! YOU WILL REGRET THIS!!!”
Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive. Ann, shrieking: “Tommy, how can you do this? You know I’ve given you the best years of your life! YOU WILL REGRET THIS!!!”
If Tom keeps his new found sanity, this is the BEST, most engrossing, “can’t stop reading this” story line of LuAnn, ormaybe any comic, except some of Wiley’s Sunday stories.
SoI think this will end with Tom and Tiff throwing her clothes out the window A walk of shame past those she transgressed And Tiff get the ring as thanks from Dad

Hallelujah!

Good to see that he’s not a total idiot.
However, the strip can’t completely get rid of Ann since she’s about the only real antagonist it has, so my guess is she’ll be back at some point to create more turmoil.

Tom better check to make sure the diamond is real – not replaced by a fake Ann put in.
