Usually they discriminate against the Indians in Minnesota. I must say, I am a little surprised.
You can bet that over in Fridley and Robbinsdale the whites in the suburbs are arming themselves to the damn teeth out of white fear of retaliation as I write this. I lived in New Hope during 58-60 as a teen. Believe me, I know from Minnesota “nice”. Ever heard of the Sioux “war”?
If I recall correctly the Armory on the U of M campus looks like it was built to hold off mobs like a German “caserne”, but whatever. You can bet any black person downtown on Hennepin is asking to get jailed—day or night….or gunned down.
Meanwhile, the dashboard is showing a spike of 659 new cases (483 on Wednesday. Boy if any place was ever begging to get sick…
Meanwhile Corona virus is still going. I am listening to John Toland’s history of the Battle of the Bulge and the lesson it poses for us today is striking.
The brass let their guard down in the Ardennes and ignored serious warnings of Nazi movements. “Why there’re no Nazi’s over there!”.
Just like people today think the local area isn’t crawling with infection. I can hear the chatter on my 2 meter rig. Beautiful weather —-Beautiful corona virus weather !!
Most grew up in a state with similar stories but the rest of you who didn’t must go back home like the president said. This will Make America Great Again.
The rioters aren’t the locals. Check out what the Public Safety people are saying in St. Paul and Mpls. They’re skinheads, far right groups trying to start a race war. Probably egged on by the prez. Russians, too. The term is Agent Provocateur.
I grew up in MN, too. (Still there) When I graduated from college, the Vietnam War was still “on” and a focus of protests. Entering the building, we graduates – in gowns and hats – were given leaflets that promoted when Hubert H Humphrey started his speech, we should all turn our chairs around and give him out backs. The protest ended up being a professor putting on his sunglasses. HHH gave a short speech – which was odd because he did like to talk – and sat down. I thought how oblivious those promoting this “turn around” demonstration during graduation from a private, thus expensive, college while the parents, who paid for this education, were sitting in the stands. Regardless of politics, We graduates knew our *sses would be grass and our parents the mower should we have committed such a rude and public faux pas.

Wow, great story. I lived a mile from where the rioting was taking place in Detroit in 1967. We could hear the tanks rumbling up Warren avenue from that distance. Looks like we need to go back to that era and begin again.
Excellent piece of editorial and historic work!!! It’ so unfortunate that the canvas of history is invisible to so many. Your talents as an artist and voice are very much appreciated.
My great uncle lived in Watts, I went to check on him during the riots and his black neighbors were around his house with shotguns to protect him. They made in clear that the rioters and looters were NOT their neighbors, or from Watts. It is typical in such riots that it is indeed NOT the residents destroying their own home.

Great response. Most people do but they often do not vote.
