H1N1 (swine flu) was included in this year’s flu vaccine, so if they baby got her shot as she should have, she’s safe from that. However, “stomach flu” isn’t “flu” at all.. usually it’s Norovirus (the same thing that can get whole cruise ships sick; it happens way more often on land but because cruise ships are required to report it, that’s the only place we hear about it.)

Hotels and convention centers have to report it also. A few years ago my company had an off site supervisors forum and the ALL the supervisors got the Norovirus. No supervisors for a week. It was a little ironic because I work at a medical lab.

The baby is NOT in Evie’s lap, she’s in her mother, Joan’s lap, so she is safe!

Good thinking, Evie! Where can I get some police tape like that?

Evie not only are you smart grandma but prepared with police tape but hand sanitizer. You will be breathing in the germs.

Some time ago I only had one child a baby boy, I heard there was a nasty virus going around. Small town knocked a lot of people out, school was close to empty. Knocked me down for a week. With pink eye too.

Then with two kids another one vicious virus went through town I had two school age kids knocked them down I should have kept them home for a week and didn’t. No fever but stomach was very bad. So Evie as much precautions as you are taking watch out matter of time.

I get my flu shot every year, even though it may not be effective. If it’s not effective, no harm done, and if it is, then I’m protected. Many doctors aren’t certain about the effectiveness, but they get it anyway.

On the other and, I don’t use hand sanitizer the way most people do these days. There’s a bottle on the desk at work (with alcohol), there’s a wall mounted dispenser (non-alcohol) on the wall next to the desk; and all they’re doing is killing up to 99.9% of all bacteria, both bad and good, and leaving the skin unable to combat everyday dirt and the most hardy 0.1% of evil bacteria that the good bacteria would normally fight off by themselves.

The only useful effect of hand sanitizers is to create huge dividends for the manufacturers’ shareholders

Place I work at there are several hand santiziers all over. One forgets about door knobs has germs from being open. Staff use that santizer a lot.

After I stopped consuming white flour, sugar, fats and all other junk food 15 years ago I haven’t had the flue at all, and a cold only once early last winter, which lasted only 5 days with no after symptems. I learned to keep my immune system built up without the need of shots, and don’t fail to shake hands with anyone no matter what their illness. Not too bad for an old geezer of nearly 80! Still see the doctor once a year cause HE says so. Don’t know what for, though…guess he needs the money.

I agree with Earl. I also eat mostly really healthy whole grains and lean meats that I cook myself (I’m picking up another turkey breast tomorrow to roast with my garden herbs -so yummy) and my pizza is no longer a “guilty pleasure” because I do whole wheat with flax seed, sauce of low salt tomatoes with pureed broccoli and red wine, and selected cheeses that are mostly lower in salt than commercially used (except for a little Pharm Reg)! I wash my hands a ton and have to shots either! I am now 73 and having a chem panel yearly (tracking it myself with a spreadsheet).
