My docotr prescribed Uloric for my gout. I took it for a while, then I saw the TV ad- the one with the guy carrying a giant green beaker. The side effects listed took longer than the rest of the ad. So I stopped taking it (even though one of the warnings was ’Don’t stop taking it without consulting your doctor.) A few months later I got gout again. The doctor asked why when I was taking Uloric. I told him I was nervous about the side effects. He said “They have to say that. Most people have no side effects. It’s better than gout.” So I started taking them again.

Fast forward a few years. I get a call out of the blue from my doctor’s office. “The doctor wants you to stop taking the Uloric right away.” A quick internet searcj revealed problems with “Sudden Cardiac Death.” associated with it. and the FDA put it on their “Black Box” list.

all I can say is finally a WALT story. I just wish they would have said why he was in the hospital. But I guess farmer joe and his communist collective farming was more important.

Expect reruns to last for awhile. Jim is preparing to present special strips to celebrate the 100th birthday of Skeezix.

Like a doctor told me when he gave me penicillin and it gave me bad montezuma’s revenge – you’ll just have to put up with it to get the benefit from the drug. I didn’t get it then, and I still don’t get it.

It’s about the risk of taking them vs. the risk of NOT taking them! (Take that, anti-vaxers…)
