Well, apparently the COVID-19 virus might have trouble surviving in high heat and humidity.

    The operative word is “might.”

I know this is a comic strip…. but I keep seeing posts about this, and I need to say….

    PLEASE everybody BE CAREFUL….

    and don’t believe myths.

It’s totally not proven that a few hours at the beach or in a sauna will kill this virus.

We just don’t KNOW and it’s really doubtful.

We MAY discover that it’s helpful… or not.

What we do know right now is that even boiling water (100°C, 212°F) is not hot enough for hospital-level disinfection, and it’s way too hot for YOU to soak in.

Autoclaves do sterilize with heat and moisture…

    but that’s at 131°C, 250°F… and they’re often raised to 132°C (270°F).

It takes 15 minutes at that temperature at high pressure to disinfect, longer without pressure.

Dry sterilization takes an even higher temperature…. 160°C, for TWO HOURS.

Sure… that will destroy the new coronavirus…. and kill you, too!

UV light is also used to sterilise…

But hospital UV sanitizers use UVC… a component of UV light that is NOT present in sunlight ( which contains UVA and UVB light) …

and at levels used to disinfect, it will seriously burn you.

Colds are caused by a related (but not as infectious or lethal) variety of coronavirus.

If you’ve ever gone to the beach with a cold, you know that you came home with a cold.

It wasn’t magic then; it isn’t now.

Don’t let politics interfere with your good judgement…

or your health or your safety.
