So much for little miss snarkiness now that she’s realized she’s going to need some help. Have to wonder if these are a form of dittos does Wally recognize them?

At least Alan’s not a murderer. Of course, anymore we don’t know what he is. Or anyone here, for that matter.

Fascinating. It ‘bleeds’ when broken, but reassembles like a ditto and uses other toothbrushes like component parts (like dittos) to build new forms. Whatever drives the physics of this universe, it’s similar in some ways to Wally’s reality, but wildly different in others.

Nice artwork! In the 4th panel. She’s in focus, while Duffy and Alan are not. And in the first panel, the door is out of focus and the guys are in focus. Shallow depth of field, here.

Time for Wally to get out the dittos so they can find the way out … and maybe figure out if the toothbrushes are related to the dittos.

Color would help here. With just grayscale, you can’t tell if it is blood (life sustaining fluid) or if it is ink (defensive fluid), or something else. Alan still has some on his face, but we don’t know exactly what his reaction is relating to. And with dittos, Kirbee had some stuck to her and she referred to is as devil jelly because it was displaying weird eyes and teeth to get an emotional reaction from her, but when Molly got the dittos to behave, Kirbee thought they were adorable. And dittos don’t typically stay in form, they morph. This broken toothbrush is still a toothbrush with an interesting filling. Which makes me wonder if whatever this stuff it, the overall effect is like a hermit crab where what’s inside is alive, but the shell is “borrowed”. Which stil begs the question, why are toothbrushes so readily available? And we still haven’t seen a large construct, up close, that Wally was observing from a distance, to see if it is entirely made of a “colony” of toothbrushes sort of like a coral reef, but mobile.

    Questions questions.

Now she pays attention. Concerned about Alan now…..hopefully no side effects from the splatter.

Why toothbrushes? Why not chafing dishes or argyle socks?

Not sure if these things are dittos, per se, and not some other artificial organism. Dittos thrive on extreme emotions, while these things seem to lie dormant until something disturbs them. (OK, dittos do that, too.) But why toothbrushes? Is someone terrified of the dentist? Maybe they’re made of some type of “mimetic poly-alloy”.

“A bit of a complication”? An understatement if ever there was one.

I think our sophisticated scientist has been shaken to her core. And shaken out of her snarkiness? Maybe even to the point of realizing she doesn’t know everything and maybe really does NEED the help of the others? Was she attacked? I almost expect to see her fall with a knife in her back, or something.

Why do get the impression that whatever the Topsider says will be the understatement of the year??? :/

IMHO, The Chaos Monster (the one that calls itself God) would find an easy way to possess a mortal by entry into the body through the mouth. People stick toothbrushes into their mouths – unless, of course, they’re polishing their hemorrhoids…

I wonder if we are gonna get a Fight Club style reveal here due to previous Endtown strips.

Here me out. The Topsider never looked down at the brushes once at the beginning. She didn’t care. They were irrelevant. The first time we see her actually look at one was two comics ago.

What do we know about mutants? Their perception of the world is incredibly distorted. The Topsiders do not suffer from this. Not visually I mean.

So what if… Those literally AREN’T toothbrushes. I mean obviously they aren’t… But what if the mutants looked down and their brains could not comprehend what they were visualizing? So their brains just made them into toothbrushes to make sense of them? And the actual shape of these suckers is something we the viewer have not had revealed to us yet. Even when the creature is forming behind the topsider we’re just still seeing it in Mutant-o-Vision.
