Man: Bush made us nervous.
Woman: He was jumpy and trigger happy. Too quick to the draw.
Man: We longed for someone calm. Who'd take his time making decisions.
Woman: Careful deliberate.
Man: Calm. Calm? or Dead?
Woman: It's subtle.
BrianCrook—–Perhaps you don’t remember your history lesson of how the French came to the aid of the US colony revolutionaries against the British? We had help, which is what the Libyan’s need..which is a “no fly zone”. THAT is what Obama SHOULD do!
As much as my mitigated hopes may be dashed for the Obama presidency reversing the disastrous policies preceding his administration he is at the very least not as moronically arrogant as the Bush team. The world is a complicated interwoven mess of problems, largely due to U.S. (corporate interests) meddling in foreign affairs over the past decades. This aberration will not be undone by one presidency but a long sequence of reasoned, progressive, policy makers addressing the daunting problems confronting global civilizations on all fronts. Yes, I wish in my heart that this administration had the will and the power to hold those that pooped on our country (and others) to account. I also believe that someday, one way or another, they will. However, as for now, it appears that there are plenty of fires to deal with and for that, I am glad that someone—not that Obama is wholly in charge—is manning the fire hose with a cool head, an intellect capable of genuine inquiry, and the ability to make decisions based on informed realities instead of fictions supposedly handed down from on high.
Well reasoned, Patrick JB Flynn, but flawed; corporate interests in fact own us all, and the sooner we admit that inconvenient truth the sooner we can go back to lolling around on our morbidly obese rear ends, gaping at the babbling fun box and waiting for the corporate sponsored broadcast of the Armageddon Show.
Patrick Flynn says, “The world is a complicated interwoven mess of problems, largely due to U.S. (corporate interests) meddling in foreign affairs over the past decades.”
You survey the world scene and come to the conclusion that US involvement in foreign lands is largely (i.e. the number one factor) the cause of the world’s problems? A more demented mindset one can hardly imagine. ALL US involvement in foreign lands, at its core, is REACTIONARY in nature. Utter pablum.
Interesting that with a “sovereign” movement in the U.S., along with the Tea party, since especially Reagan, we aren’t supposed to respect ANY OTHER nation’s “sovereignty”?? Actions against Serbia were UN/NATO for a reason- we went to the folks in the neighborhood. Grenada, Panama, Nicaragua, Afghanistan, Iraq, - nah- no need, we’ll just do what WE want. Yes, Gadaffi sucks- so why did we support him, or ignore him, for over 40 years? Iran sucks- so what- it’s THEIR country. Staying out of Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, Somalia, Lebanon, Yemen, no history lessons for us there at all, are there?

Mr. Rall, it’s easy to criticize. What should President Obama do about Libya’s civil war?

Are you sure this comic is about Libya? Are you sure that’s not an American city in the background in panel 4?

Obama’s problem is that he tries to please everyone, including the ones whose job it is to disagree with him.

^I said he TRIES, not PLEASES.

Well, Tig, if we follow your equation, then Reagan = Nixon and Bush-Dick = Harding, so even Carter is a step up from all of them.

Does no one remember the Carter reaction to the Nixon funeral?
