Rumpy doesn’t need a panel, his gut tells him it’s either you or me…. and of course for him, it’s always ME, ME, ME! But GOP TX Lt. Guv Dan Patrick summed up Rumpy’s stance in one little sentence: “There are more important things (for me) than (you) living.”
LMAO. When Dan Patrick made his first statement about letting Grandma & Grandpa die to save the economy, I immediately recalled the Republican’s hue and cry about Obamacare’s death panels and posted about the hypocrisy on FB.
Conservative (note well!) pundit Rich Lowry: “An irony of the coronavirus debate is that the more successful lockdowns are in squelching the disease, the more vulnerable they will be to attack as unnecessary in the first place. A growing chorus on the right—from conservative talk radio hosts to Republican lawmakers like Reps. Andy Biggs of Arizona and Ken Buck of Colorado—is slamming the shutdowns as a panicked overreaction and agitating to end them, hoping to drive a wedge between President Donald Trump and his more cautious advisers. […]A good example of the genre is an op-ed co-authored by former Education Secretary William Bennett and talk radio host and author Seth Leibsohn . It is titled, tendentiously and not very accurately, “Coronavirus Lessons: Fact and Reason vs. Paranoia and Fear.” Bennett and Leibsohn are intelligent and public-spirited men whom I’ve known for years, but they’ve got this wrong, and in rather elementary ways. They cite the latest estimate of the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation in Washington state that the current outbreak will kill 68,000 Americans. Then, they note that about 60,000 people died of the flu in 2017-18. This is such an obviously flawed way of looking at the question, it’s hard to believe that Bennett and Leibsohn don’t realize it. [note from Godfreydaniel: Could they be IDIOTS? Well, yes………] If we are going to have 60,000 deaths with people not leaving their homes for more than a month, the number of deaths obviously would have been higher—much higher—if everyone had gone about business as usual. We didn’t lock down the country to try to prevent 60,000 deaths; we locked down the country to limit deaths to 60,000 (or whatever the ultimate toll is) from what would have been a number multiples larger. […] As for the flu comparison, it isn’t as telling as Bennett and Leibsohn believe. In the 2011-12 season, 12,000 people died of the flu in the entire country.”
Leading economist says Trump’s coronavirus response makes the US look like ‘a third world country’
Stiglitz made some grim predictions for the United States during an interview with The Guardian — including an economic depression and unemployment that could reach 30%. And the U.S., Stiglitz laments, doesn’t have the social safety net needed to address such economic conditions.
“The numbers turning to food banks are just enormous and beyond the capacity of them to supply,” Stiglitz told The Guardian. “It is like a third world country. The public social safety net is not working.”
I wonder how many people agitating for things to reopen realize that they are merely being used as cannon fodder by the rich far-right people (to use the term loosely) who are pulling the strings of their very willing puppets?
When Chud Nation returns to the Hunter Biden well (and they will, now that “China Virus” and hydroxychloroquine have crashed and burned), make sure to remind them that Trump’s dimwit daughter and slumlord son-in-law are on the Committee to Reopen America despite them having zero qualifications (other than knowing how to fluff Trump) for such a job.
However, it does track nicely with the zero health experts on the panel. Consistency!
“….but I still say only ten to twenty million killed, TOPS! Depending on the breaks!” – – – -General Buck Turgeson (George C. Scott), from the movie “Dr. Strangelove”, as he tries to casually explain to the President how easily we could win the nuclear shoot-out with the Russians.
The biggest problem with the IHME data used in Washington is they aren’t based on data from the US – but, foreign countries’ efforts and results. The only significant alternative was developed by UT Austin using GPS data from cellphones. Their conclusion is that we have another 2-4 weeks before this nation reaches peak infection.
Instead of preventing deaths, they’re encouraging and condoning them. Not only one nut case were dealing with but a clan of twits and empty headed fake officials…..from the ghost cabinet…..BOOOOO!

The public safety net has been the target of Republican vultures ever since Reagan made health care into a profitable venture.
