Missed all the stuff I normally see, rats, raccoons, possums, skunks, coyotes, rabbits, …

Last week several early white crowned sparrows, mostly immatures but also a few adults, showed up in my yard. I have never seen one before the first day of fall. I’m in California so it may be due to the fires? These lovely little birds sing all throughout the day all winter long!

I got to “sit” a juvenile crow The group left the dear on my back porch to learn to fend for itself. Cat food, water, sun and shade. At five the group came back and the youngun left. My “urban” bingo would need to include butterflies and pigeons mating, baby possums, cardinals, and blue jays.

Lovely drawings. It’s hard to put a finger on what makes them seem witty, but something does.

In my part of Texas? We’ve got multiple types of snakes (including water moccasins, several types of grass snakes, and rattlers), multiple types of spiders (including brown recluse, black widow, and tarantula), foxes (silver and red), horned toads, frogs, jackrabbits, roadrunners, scissortails, hawks, vultures, buzzards, turkeys, cows, skunks, possums, deer, crows, doves, pigeons, and assorted stray animals all going loose.

We don’t get many of these where I live.

The cards are missing white-tailed jackrabbits, Richardson’s ground squirrels (gopher), voles, deermice, kestrels (or merlins, can’t tell which), Swainson’s hawks, white pelicans, coyotes, porcupines, and that moose that wandered onto the course during the marathon one year.
