I think Mom & Dad will have you fill those holes back up when they see them, Calvin. After that I suspect you’ll be grounded for a very long time.

Funny how often parents aren’t keen on education when you do it yourself.

He knows all about the badlands of Montana! We’re constantly exposed to the precociousness of this little kid…the “Philistines” and now erosion in Montana. Who wouldn’t want him living with them, gopher holes and all?

The Badlands are in Montana, North Dakota and South Dakota, but the National Park is in South Dakota.

A suburban subdivision – the perfect place to explore undisturbed soil! (It was so much more fun growing up on a farm – lots of places to dig!!)

Mom and Dad: think of it as an opportunity to plant more trees and “go green!” … or not.

If dad gets this on video, he’ll have leverage to convince Calvin to shovel snow in the winter.

He can tell his folks that fruit is a necessity, good for you and we can have our own orchard so we will have plenty. Then we can sell the surplus and make lots of money and mom will be able to ‘can” whatever is left so we can have fruit all winter.

There! Aren’t you pleased and proud of me for doing the hardest part for you, digging the holes?

    That should work……….

Will Calvin lie to his parents about that ‘cherry tree’ sapling, Wiseguy411?

Grog said, “I suspect you’ll be grounded…” I dig that one, but his parents won’t dig what Calvin dug.

Submachine said, “And what do you do in a pith helmet?” You make pithy comments! …or to emulate Rocky and Bullwinkle with an alternate title for their little story, You call a spade a spade!

I agree about the badlands in Montana and West Dakota. There’s also another park that has pretty badlands, Theodore Roosevelt NP. West Dakota also has fossils, but it was nearer the shore, so most of the fossils are more scattered–those in Montana are more together. OTOH, they have gotten some good fossils in Dakota–wasn’t there a recent T. Rex?–but most are of sea-dwellers.

Calvin is 6 years old. Why do his parents never seem to care where he is or what he’s doing until after he’s done something to get in trouble for?

I like to think that Calvin’s Dad &/or Mom are creative, outside-the-box folks, who can appreciate and support, rather than punish, their child’s natural creativity, which, at six yrs. old, is just starting to develop. That’s where people like Bill Watterson come from. Holes can be filled.

I agree with GretchensMom. Don’t Calvin’s parents know by now that, given Calvin’s active mind and propensity for Always Getting Into Trouble, that he needs supervision? A lot of it! I think that’s the problem with today’s kids–parents don’t watch what their kids are doing.

I noticed that Calvin is digging in the WRONG spots for those bones. He needs to fill up the ones he’s dug, and move over to the equally spaced areas NEXT to them.

Well Calvin, just keep digging. If your parents don’t kill you first, you’ll be rich in 3 years.
