I took it Luckovich was saying wearing masks and gloves, keeping the suggested distance from others, and staying at home unless necessary to get out, would bring victory.
Some areas are experiencing 300+% of the deaths that the seasonal flu causes and while there is a vaccine for the flu … there is no proven effective cure for the SARS-CoV-2 virus. For example:
" …
The coronavirus has already outstripped flu as a killer in Pennsylvania, leading to 309 deaths compared with 102 deaths in laboratory-confirmed flu cases this year. During the 2017-18 flu season, the worst in the last five years, there were 258 flu deaths.
Some models predict that fatalities in this first wave of coronavirus will peak locally in mid-April, but there will be weeks of illness and death after that.
….
Thirteen weeks into the coronavirus era, some still question whether the new disease is bad enough to warrant an economic shutdown when influenza, a disease that kills thousands every year, is treated as an annual inconvenience. Some Twitter users, including the conservative radio host Bill Mitchell, call the coronavirus “flu lite.” A Pew Research Survey released April 1 and conducted from March 10 to 16 found that 79% of regular Fox News viewers believed the news media had exaggerated the risks of the new virus.
….
A huge difference is that there are vaccines for flu each fall. They’re not perfect, but when well-matched to the circulating strains of flu, which change every year, they reduce the number of cases and the amount of serious disease. There is no vaccine for the coronavirus, which can cause a disease that no one in the world had before it emerged in China in December. Unlike the flu, there are no proven antiviral treatments for coronavirus.
The V sign was used in the 60’s to represent Peace and end of all wars. The V sign was used in UK and USA during WW2 as well to represent victory. What I find very sad, is that the Statue has on a mask and a glove. When i walk down the street now, in my mask, I do flash the V sign to people. Some are clueless, others just stare. It is my silent form of Peace sign protest against POTUS and his tribe.
I have wondered how Americans would react to a severe national crisis. My observations over the last three or four weeks are discouraging. I have no problem “doing my part,” but I’m getting the sense from the administration that I’m supposed to do my part and a great deal of “your” part as well, because “you’re too important, too rich,” to be bothered with the inconvenience The bitterness of the “Us vs. Them” divide, in the face of this crisis, almost makes me despair.
Most of us are trying to achieve victory for the United States, whereas Trump and his fellow crooks and/or traitors are trying to achieve victory for themselves at the expense of the United States………

They need to give face masks to most of the citizens, and muzzles to the white house mob.

The war analogies are quickly wearing thin. Even on the part of news media they’re misleading and irresponsible.

Nice positive work Mr. L. Lovely artwork, too. Too bad people will use it to spew hatred. I’m sure that wasn’t your intent.

Not yet! Not yet! We’re getting there, but bad timing can undo all the benefits from our collective self-sacrifice!
