The last panel was for some reason redrawn. The original had the same text, but Mike was squaring a stack of papers rather than watching a printer. (With the sound effect “schlock schlock”, which may be commentary on the Cormorant’s quality.)

Mike reminds me of Henry Fonda.

Does Mike have a secret second job? Is he the night hero? Or just a tired old man who has a boring life?

I suspect Jack wasn’t so much looking at his shoes as at Erin’s boots.

I’m afraid Mike is the Night Hero (and he’s also in love with Erin). Erin is really a sadistic person and poor Jack is ashamed to find her pretty hot.
