Was the original vegetable peel in the dishwasher or something? That’s my guess why Opal used Earl’s razor.

I was looking for a razor the other day (to clean some arm hair where I needed to put a strong-glue bandage). Turns out that we have none in the house. I haven’t shaved since, oh, 1965 or so; and my wife gave it up when she gave up wearing stockings. I figured there would be one or two of a multi-pack left over, but she must have actually quit when the last one started to pull too hard.

I’ve never seen carrots that come in tough shells. Must be some exotic breed.

Believe me, by the time you reach Opal’s age, there isn’t any hair on your legs to shave. It’s all migrated to your chin!

Are those little splotches of shaving cream on Earl’s face or has he cut himself a few times?

Sometimes it pays to not indulge in too much specificity with your questions.

I don’t know why I laughed so hard at this. But just thinking about how thin the skin is thats coming off the carrots makes me laugh.

When those Wilkinson Steel razor blades came out, I would take the one in the Late and Unlamented’s razor for myself and replace it with a new blade. One morning he came into the kitchen, holding his razor, and announced “These new blades last forever. I’ve had this one for three weeks.” I just smiled and said, “yes, dear.”

I’m not sure that using a razor on carrots would work. They are designed to glide OVER the skin, not dig into it.

And this strip is just another example of what a horrible woman Opal is. The way she treats Earl is shameful and borders on abuse.

I remember my grandfather shaving with a “cut-throat” (a straight) razor. The leather strop hung on a hook behind the bathroom door. One year, I gave him a safety razor and a pack of double-edged blades for his birthday. He thanked me profusely. I got them back when he passed away at 92, nearly unused. My grandmother told me he he’d told her the blades weren’t sharp enough.
