A few years back a dog came into the shelter where I worked. It allowed us to identify his rare breed and find the breed rescue. The rescue immediately took the dog and would not return it to the owner who had not updated the tattoo information. Said that since the dog was a “stray” they could find another home. Not sure what happened after that. These days the shelter chips all dogs when adopted.

Do dogs in American rescue centres get ear tattoos. If so, why ? I have never heard of this before.

Should have had it covered up with one that that has “mom” on it. They refer to it as “puppy love” in the tattoo shops!

I recently lost my last “rescue” and he had a tattoo on his inner leg from the Michigan Humane Society and he had a chip also.
