Happens every time. When punishment is handed down, he rebels and thinks he can retaliate against the establishment ( Mom & Dad), but to no avail!! And he usually won’t admit culpability!!
Look on the bright side… With his active imagination, sitting in front of the blank TV might be a lot of fun! Think of all the adventures he could make up in his head.
I’ve seen daytime TV kid, you’re not missing much.
300 channels: 200 of which are infomercials (150 of these for the Shark Vacccum) and the rest containing less interesting crap with 40 minutes of content and 22 minutes of commercials. Yes, those syndicated shows which the provider can get almost for free need an extra two minutes of commercials every hour.
I don’t watch TV unless I am at the computer. I can get a lot done during the commercials. Otherwise I record the shows and fast forward through the commercials (I call that trash compacting).
Amen, what happened to reading The Hardy Boys, Nancy Drew, Tolkien or Piers Anthony> And nothing wrong with a friendly game of Life, Monopoly, Clue, Trivial Pursuit or Stratego!
When I was a kid, we didn’t have a TV. No, it wasn’t that long ago, my family was just unusual. I read a lot, but luckily my parents never thought of taking my books away as punishment.
This reminds me of one mf my cousins. Greg wanted his father to buy him a balloon, and Uncle Bob said No. “Fine! I won’t watch your old parade!” and he sat on the curb with his eyes closed. Guess who got hurt by that little stunt? Hint: it wasn’t my uncle.
Knowing Calvin, he’ll VERY quickly get bored doing that, and start imagining he’s doing something far more interesting (to him). I do find it interesting that Hobbes has nothing to say during this.
Wow, it’s rare to see Calvin’s punishment for tormenting Rosalyn actually being shown in the strip. And then after that, Rosalyn didn’t return until five years later…

Not allowing your kid to watch TV or use any sort of electronics would be a terrible thing to do nowadays when we can’t go outside.

Maybe if you did learn a lesson, you wouldn’t have tv privileges taken away.

Reminds me of an episode of THE FAR SIDE with the caption “What people did before television,” showing a family staring at a blank wall!

And if you annoy Rosalyn again next time, you get to sit in front of the blank TV for another week.

TV is called a medium because anything well done is rare.

Cal, your parents’ old box television tells those of us who noticed it a very different story.

For those who wished his parents would spank him, I’d guess Calvin would prefer a quick spanking to being deprived of his beloved tv shows!

Calvin – you definitely need a trip to the woodshed – but your parents are too feeble to do anything like that.
