There is no such thing as a "mere housecat. It IS nice that Puck worries about her. Tommy is wrong about her because she keeps too much inside.

It seems that cats are as “human” as we are.

Panic receding. The bottle shops are still open, and I haven’t seen any more suggestions that brewers and wineries might close. Still trembling at the thought, though.

Here are a few you might have missed.

Friday night and the cheesecake’s fine

But she’s in a tragic state of mind

    So play the depressed music

    She doesn’t care about food

    She just wants to brood

    Anybody could hear her sigh

Night is young but melancholy’s high

With a bit of heavy mooning

    “Everything’s ruined”

She’s in the mood for despaired dance

And now she has her chance

    She is the drama queen

    Shy and sweet

    Thinks the world’s so mean

    Drama queen

Hear the sigh from her pain unseen, oh yeah

    Oh the pathos

    Oh the strife

Having the worst time of her life

    Ooh, pity that kitty

    Share her chagrin

    Grokking the drama queen

Tommy, you are so wrong! Sophie has quite the flare for dramatics; it’s slapstick and pratfalls that she doesn’t get. Perhaps instead of wrestling, you could put on a play.

Shy people and cats are often misunderstood.

I need to get back to working on my book, but my heart hasn’t been in it. Shakespeare supposedly wrote King Lear during a plague. I can certainly work on a cat mystery during this time.

There is nothing “mere” about a housecat.

And I think Sophie needs to be squeezed. She will both protest and like it at the same time.

At least she is a reclusive drama queen. I’m glad Tommy sticks up for her. The less outgoing of the world are too frequently spoken of as being “too good for us” or other disparaging things.

My oldest fur baby Patina had this same issue. Still does to some extent. I had to find 1:1 time to play with her to make sure she was OK and knew that it was OK to be silly. Granted, Lark (pic) still takes over and becomes ‘crazy kitty’ during play most of the time, but I can get all 3 of my girls playing eventually.

    Hey There, Georgie Girl

    Hey there, Sophie Girl

    Writing and drawing so creatively,

Nobody you meet could ever see the loneliness there,

    Inside you,

    Hey there, Sophie Girl,

Why do other cats just pass you by,

Could it be you just don’t try,

    Or do they really care?

    …….

They always come to see you

But you don’t invite them in,

But with a little effort you all can win!

    You sure can!

    …….

    Hey there, Sophie Girl,

There’s a lot of love there just outside,

Let them love you, do not hide,

And Oh! What a change there’d be

    The world would see,

    The True Sophie Girl!

I’m having a flashback to my teen and college years when I had the miserable job of reading bad, angsty poetry in the slushpile for school literary magazines. After that job, I had absolutely no pity for such over-the-top drama. And I’m an introvert, too.

Well, pro wrestling in the US is really all about drama, but I can see where this might be going! Pink House Playhouse? The Old Cat Globe? Sophie probably won’t be an actor; she will write the plays and direct.

Poor Sophy—everyone thinks she is aloof and stuck up when she’s really just shy and socially awkward. Many teenagers would relate. And also relate to the drama.

Sophie’s prose is downright Shakespearean. I submit the octave of Sonnet 29 (which I’ve modified to fit Sophie’s gender and species) as proof:

“When, in disgrace with fortune and cat’s eyes,

I all alone beweep my outcast state,

And trouble deaf heaven with my bootless cries,

And look upon myself and curse my fate,

Wishing me like to one more rich in hope,

Featured like her, like her with friends possessed,

Desiring this cat’s art and that cat’s scope,

With what I most enjoy contented least;"

Hopefully Sophie will soon reach the volta (the turning point in a sonnet) and see that she is rich in both friends and art.

The bard’s version can be found here:

We don’t know anyting about Sophie’s kittenhood or either her early adulthood. She was different and she is a rescue which means somewhere she needed to be rescued it isn’t that much of a stretch to think that being blind in one eye she would have had trouble on the street. It’s not that much of a stretch to think that he was surrender to the shelter for some reason that she doesn’t understand or didn’t understand at the time. So she does have issues and she does want to be included she just wants to be included on her own terms as her own person. Because oh her blindness in one eye she probably never felt comfortable wrestling and tussling with other kittens because she had a blind spot now that she’s older and has if not more confidence than at least more experience out in the world and has learned coping mechanisms for her blindness maybe she’ll be able 2 enjoy some of the things that she’s missed maybe she will be able to enjoy finally some of the things she is missed growing up.
