    Empty Room = Income Opportunity.

And how much you wanna to bet that either Frank or Nancy will rent that room out and tell Lu “after the fact,” once again?

Oh, Luann. Don’t be jealous just yet. Naval Station New York on Staten Island in New York City, closed in 1994. The only Naval base in New York state is Saratoga Springs NSU Navy Base in Saratoga Springs, NY. Skip that theater world. Besides as a military wife, she will probably be moving every 2 years.

I will miss Pru! A breath of fresh air in the world of Luann. Perhaps in the future there will be a story arc where Luann and Bern return to NYC to go to Pru’s wedding and catch her at the theater only to run into Quill or some other interesting adventure for the girls.

Let’s make it real… Pru heads to New York only to find she can’t go there because of the COVID pandemic. Then she finds out fiancee is in isolation because she’s tested positive. She can’t turn around and head back to LuAnne Land because they’ve closed their borders for the same reason. So she ends up living in her car for weeks while they try to figure out a way to write their way out of this corner they’ve inadvertently written themselves into.

Luann will miss Pru terribly. She’s already sad that her friend leaves. I hope this is not their farewell, but that Pru invites Luann to her wedding and that they stay in touch. If Luann becomes an artist or a set designer she could go to NY regularly, or even move there.

The Fuse? I’m surprised Luann hasn’t come up with the “brilliant idea” of having the reception (maybe even the wedding as well) there.

Isn’t somebody in the strip (TJ?) licensed to perform weddings? Somebody refresh my memory – who performed Brad and Toni’s? Then again, did we even see any part of Brad and Toni’s ceremony (or was it treated like Luann in West Side Story and the talent show Shannon and her father, and Luann and Bernice, were in – show the preparation, but skip the event itself)?

Everything looks glamorous from afar. Yes Pru and her spouse will have their own place and a stable govt income. But she’ll have to reconstruct her life and work, and I’m guessing she knows how to do that. Luann needs to create a theme for hers, and realize that it doesn’t matter one lives. It’s what you do that counts. Tomorrow Pru will leave Luann with some sound advice, or maybe a address and phone#.

All the people who think this comic is written in real time, it totally amazes me that they would. No covid-19 pandemic in Luannverse. It’s cute Luann’s affectionate and teasing way of letting Pru know not only is she happy for her, but will miss her. Pru is likely to say something encouraging in return, and I hope the next few panels dealing with Luann show things looking up for her. I know I will miss Pru.

So far, this week has been mostly commentary on Pru leaving rather than any actual action (ie. taking her to the airport, or saying goodbye) Which leads me to think that next week will be focused on that or focus of other characters reacting to her move which could lead to someone else moving in.

Many people battling COVID-19 have been using the song “Lean On Me” for inspiration.

But, sad to report, the man who made it famous, Bill Withers, has passed away at age 81 (heart complications).

I don’t think Luanns comment comes from a mean place, but I do think it is a inherent character flaw. She was drawn, if I recollect, specifically to show an “average, girl-next-door” girls experinces. This is why she got contrasted to characters like Tiff, who love or hate her is never average. This average-ness was drawn as a lack of ambition that was rather charming in school, and rather rewarded – ambition is ussually discouraged in children (and burocratic school systems:), but prized in adults (and buisnesses). Now that Luanns an adult out of school, she hasn’t grown much as a character in part because she isn’t very ambitious, and she was drawn that way. Tiff, by contrast has become way more interesting because she has actual ambitions and wants, even if its just revenge and money. Pru is more interesting becuse she also has wants – family, theater etc. Luann…wants to go back to school where she can be rewarded for being average, she thinks? She kind of drifted into community college cause she didn’t know what she wanted, drifted from guy to guy cause she didn’t know what she wanted, etc. Now Luann’s going to have to deal with adults. Who have ambitions and make plans to achive them.

Luann’s comments and expression in the last two panels drips of deep ennui. Surely GnK realize how this will come across. Does this portent a major change in Luann’s fortunes?

We’ve already seen a huge upheaval in Tiff’s life direction in the events since https://www.gocomics.com/luann/2019/11/30!

I predict major things happening this year, For all of the Big Three; Luann, Tiffany and Gun(ther).

BTW I would have expected more comforting words from her “Big Sister” in response to panel 2. Too maudlin I expect.

Pru is doomed. The USN will be directed to mothball half of the carrier fleet in FY 2021. The economy is dead. She’s moving to NYC; ground zero of Cover-19. Over 500 people are dying a day. Her “bride” (husband) gets a “RIF” in 2021.

I’d feel a bit worse for Luann if there was any reason she couldn’t go off and seek excitement in a new place. But it’s not like she’s in poverty or with a kid to raise, or even locked into a university schedule. If she wants to take the plunge there’s nothing holding her back, so what’s the holdup? Personally, I think Bernice deserves a share of the blame for this, as she’s constantly belittling Luann’s ambitions and self-confidence.

Pru should have more than a fond goodbye and a door closing behind her. This poor little strip is beginning to look like a battlefield on the day after. Lots of KIA’s and MIA’s and a few Lost in Action. I expect to see Robert Duvall saying those memorable words, “I love the smell of napalm in the morning” as he surveys the destruction of Pitts.
