Imagine if those protesters at the Va. state capitol had been masked Black men carrying guns instead of White. Do you think the police might not have been peacefully escorting them? Would Rush and co. been praising them for asserting their rights?

It’s interesting to note that while most gun owners say they need a gun to protect themselves from their fellow Americans, most won’t join a service (military, law enforcement) to protect their fellow Americans. It’s almost as if they see their fellow Americans as the enemy.

What does that make a person who distrusts everyone else around to the point of needing to be armed against them?

No Matt, we generally do not advise open carry of a rifle of any type. A slung rifle is typically less accessible (unless you have it on a patrol sling) than a hip holstered handgun.

In my state we can carry open or concealed. There are about 435,000 active CCW permits at this time. That is about 12% of the adult (21 plus) population. Everyone I know with a permit carries daily. I don’t think there are any stats for open carry but you do see it from time to time even in the liberal inner city.

Alabama? Nevada? Some other deep red state?

Nope. Wisconsin. The birthplace of the public sector union, the Progressive movement, home of a major city (Milwaukee) with a Socialist mayor for 52 years during the 20th century. In fact, the Wisconsin Progressive Party held the Governor’s office for 4 years and had complete control of the State government in 1937-38.

If Wisconsin, the 49th state to allow CCW, has 12% of adults walking around armed, just imagine the numbers in “conservative” states. Depending on where you live and work, you are likely surrounded by armed civilians every day. In the office, on the street, in public places and private.

And you didn’t even know it. All those big bad scary guns in the hands of…gasp…your friends and neighbors.

If you think that the fact that many people carry guns constantly should make me feel safe, you would be wrong. People with loaded guns have a tremendous power to take a life (or more), and they expect me to trust them to: never have a bad day, never lose their temper, never mistake a situation, never shoot without thinking first. I have enough trouble trusting you to stay on your side of the road. I don’t have that trust; when I have to worry about going to a concert or going shopping and trying to not be shot by some yay-hoo (usually a white Christian American) who wants to make a point.

People everywhere use guns to settle arguments or to show how angry they are. As long as those people are allowed to get guns, I will fight for reasonable gun control laws.

First of all, assault RIFLES are illegal to own without a special federal firearms licence. cf.: Title 26 US Code, §5845. Second, hollow pints are utterly USELESS when fired from high-velocity firearms. They deform in flight making them useless. All rifle ammo is typically Full Metal Jacket (FMJ), or Jacketed Soft Point (JSP). This, of course, does not count “armor piercing” rounds, which are also illegal to own without a special federal licence.

You see, I hold those licences, and then some. I know of what I speak. I wish you did, but, like the rest of the anti-gun rights jihadists, you never let the FACTS get in the way of your easily-disprovable zombie dogma….

I am positive gun owners do less damage with their weapons than they do when they vote for a marginally sane, really stupid candidate for president who makes friends with our enemies and enemies of our friends and has caused the USA to be an international joke because they are afraid the Democrats are “coming for their guns”.

Recently my county became a “2nd amendment sanctuary” by the local commission even though there are so few restrictions that probably a toddler could purchase a rifle at the local sporting goods store. They were responding to a lone attendee who felt it was it his duty to protect people as he is “the good guy with a gun”. And he did not want any laws that may interfere with that privilege. Now do I have to fear that these vigilantes will slip up and blow me away because I moved my hand in “an aggressive manner” or I’m the wrong color/sexual orientation/political viewpoint? Maybe I die from stray bullets, or the baby next to me, because good guy got all his training and experience on the shooting range. We need a new county commission, and less people who got their education by watching episodes of the “Lone Ranger”.
