I gather that Danziger doesn’t care to see Sanders prospering in this way. His choice. I prefer Warren, but I think Sanders can win because I think he’ll pull in a lot of people who don’t normally vote.
Horace Mann was a socialist—he supported free public education! Franklin Roosevelt was a socialist—he created social security! Lyndon Johnson was a socialist—he created Medicare! Richard Nixon was a socialist—he created the Legal Services Corporation! George W. Bush was a socialist—he expanded Medicare to provide for prescription drugs! And now this CRAZY BERNIE comes along and says that Government should guarantee health care benefits for the entire country? Madness, I say! Mann and FDR and LBJ and Nixon are rolling over in their graves! And what is George W. Bush doing? Will he support Trump or this CRAZY BERNIE? (I know that took a bit of a U-turn, but Bush can’t roll over until he is in a grave.)
I voted for Hillary in the primary in 1916, simply because I thought there were enough folks out there who would never vote for a Jewish socialist. That makes me worry again this time. If we need to win on the far left, we could nominate Warren….oh, wait! She’s a woman!
Does Danziger have billions in the bank? Did Bezos order him to attack Bernie non-stop because he doesn’t want to pay taxes ever? Why in the world is a liberal political cartoonist raging so hard against Bernie? It’s not like his taxes are going up under Bernie. I may go look for a different cartoonist if this garbage keeps coming.
I read your other comment elsewhere, Hank, in which you (rightly) called Trump"the serpent Putin has nursed..". I, (whose “significant other” is Jewish) suspect that you are NOT an actual anti-Semite, but that you sense that anti-Semitism will play a meaningful role in the Red States – though it will never be mentioned. Frankly,I have the same nagging fear – as does my significant other. That said, Medicare for All will be a tough sell for ANY President. We are a resolutely backward people. Anyway, I will vote for anything the Dems put up against the festering pustule currently in the White House – and I hope you will, too . We both know it’s the RIGHT thing to do !
As lifelong conservative and former Republican strategist, Rick Wilson (author of "Running Against the Devil: A Plot to Save America From Trump—and Democrats From Themselves) correctly points out, Trump’s handlers are SALIVATING at the idea of Sanders being the nominee. (They would be frothing at the mouth if it were Bloomberg—different matter entirely.) The Trump attack machine would call any Democratic nominee a “socialist”, of course, but somebody who calls himself a “social democrat”? (Not to mention his USSR and Cuba easily-exploitable weaknesses.) If Sanders is the nominee the turnout will be immense on both sides, but in all probability more people will vote against him than for him. Because they would be running scared after all the Trump attack machine’s bombing the living hell out of Sanders. (Btw, Wilson’s other book, “Everything Trump Touches Dies” is ALSO an excellent read.)
What many of the doubters fail to realize is most of us as supporters know its going to be a struggle… we know that its a long shot that he will get any of his agenda passed, especially the big ones like M4A. But we also know that Bernie means what he says and he is willing to roll up his sleeves and commit to seeing his vision manifest… So we support him and his vision. We are NOT supporting him because we think in a couple of years we will have free healthcare and schools… We support him because we believe in his direction, his integrity and his conviction… and we are willing to join in this sure to be long and uphill battle of bringing economic and social fairness and justice to this country.

Well, it looks like Sanders is still someone other than Il Douche, so he’s worthy of my vote.

Might have been more “on-point” to try to demean and minimize all those people not in Vermont who actually voted for him…

Isn’t it an insulting depiction of the good people of Vermont? In fact, the same question could be asked of his depiction of the old South inhabitants.

Yeah, this internecine struggle is really good for US democracy. The Vierte Reich is laughing its ass off.

There are three Democrats that have a chance to beat Trump – Bernie is not one of them.

Don’t sell Bernie short. He was a damned good mayor of Burlington and an effective legislator. Sure would be an improvement over Trump.
