In California we have the State of Jefferson. It would be the the northern most counties of California and the southern most of Oregon. They are the reddest(except for the more populated ones like Humbolt) , least populated and poorest counties.
I imagine if Trump manages to win in November there will be a move for California to secede from the Union. I’d vote for it.
Those Western Virginians should hear that the state leg is going to make non-marital sex legal. I imagine there will be an general amnesty for those criminals who broke the law. That should be incentive enough to stay.
Colorado: Many northeastern counties think the same, though I don’t think they want to join Kansas or Nebraska – they want to be their own state. Give the Republicans at least three more reliable Electors in College, I suppose.
There is a group of counties in NE Colorado that want to join Wyoming. They tried a few years ago and were soundly defeated, but will keep trying. I don’t think they realize the dire state that Wyoming is in. The same for West Virginia. If we let them go they would come crawling back in a few short years.
So Northern Virginia then gets to keep more of its tax dollars, becomes more solidly blue, and West Virginia stays solidly red? Wow, don’t let the proverbial door hit you on the you know what.

If the counties can Secede can we Break California into 39 states of 1 million population? Ok Ok that is too radical.
Lets break California up into 15 states of two million people.
I was in a bar in WVA once and another patron told me the only reason WVA successfully succeeded from VA was because they wouldn’t let those who supported Virginia’s succession from the union weren’t allow to vote. I replied: “so you support a felon’s right to vote”.
