Everyone knew the trial was rigged before going in, but somebody had to get it on record. The Republicans will have earned an infamous spot in history.
What’s really sad is Nancy pushed back on impeachment until the radicals in her party forced her hand. She knew it would blow up in their faces, but when you have extremists screaming at you what are you going to do?
In last week’s ten-year budget outlook, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) projected a $1.0 trillion deficit for the current fiscal year and rising deficits coupled with slower growth over the next decade. The CBO expects discretionary spending — where research funding lives — to continue declining relative to the size of the economy, while federal health and retirement programs and net interest continue taking up larger parts of the budget
And I included the last part because the success of our economy has become very dependent upon our technology and the scientific research which creates new opportunities for technological innovation. Give those up and you are ceding the future to other countries more willing to invest in research and development.
Lessee now. On one side, we have a traitor, bully, criminal con-man, who has done his best to rip up the Constitution… and with the help of McConnell and others has succeeded in escaping, for the moment, from his misdeeds and high misdemeanors. Obviously, that person is depicted as most excellent, perfect and correct.
On the other side, we have people who worked hard, upheld their oaths of office, found actual evidence of crime, misdemeanors, etc. and pushed to bring a criminal traitor to justice. They failed. Obviously, one of their leaders is a misguided chump (at best)… and an enemy of the Great and Orange True Leader (and all proper minions).
Nancy handed the GOP a video clip that will resonate through the entire campaign season. Truly an unforced error, and her party is going to pay for it in November.
“Impeachment is so divisive to the country that unless there’s something so compelling and overwhelming and bipartisan, I don’t think we should go down that path, because it divides the country.” ~ Speaker Nancy Pelosi, March 11, 2019, Interview by Washington Post Magazine.
Compelling and overwhelming and bipartisan. Such wise words. A pity she failed to heed her own advice.

I like this cartoon, it shows Nancy as President and Trump ripping up her impeachment. Nice (accidental) job Mr. Ramirez!

For the first time in history, a member of the president’s party voted guilty. For the first time.
