If depression and suicides weren’t increasing and people were content with their standard of living, having an authoritarian society might be tolerable. What is so awful about open and honest communication, cooperation, compromise and common goals for a nation?

I miss the days when any big government didn’t repress any of the peoples’ freedoms. And didn’t feel the need.
PS: Those days have never existed, except, maybe in movies or on stage.
