That’s the question: Can the damage of Trump be undone? Especially since many believe the damage he has done is what’s so good about him!

    Unfair characterization of Carmen, Scott.

She was a Never Trumper. Hence, she did not like him before he called her human scum.

    .

And, she was never a real Republican to begin with. Real Republicans have ‘gotten over it’ and now believe that Trump is above the law and that Putin is America’s best friend, with the Saudi royals close behind.

And, any effort to reduce income inequality is no longer just Class Warfare — it is now Socialism, which everyone knows is exactly the same as Communism. And Fascism. And Venezuela.

And journalists are Enemies Of The People.

And climate change is non-existent because it’s a Chinese hoax.

Trump is basically the future of America, people need to understand that for there is no mechanism to stop him.

I really sympathize with Carmen, as I know several people who share her misgivings and dismay. But my question to her, and them, is simply what are you doing to help “this moment” pass?

Never Trumpers have nothing to cling to except rage and their mistake of being wrong. All they have to complain about is “style”.

I worked hard to stop Trump’s election. But it is clear he has fullfilled every promise and done more to actually passed policies the GOP allegedly support than any RINO ever has.

Never Trumpers, let go you hate and turn away from the dark side.

I know there is still good in you.

upthread: “Trump’s … actually passed policies the GOP allegedly support than any RINO ever has.”

Somehow, we’ve managed to forget fiscal conservative Republicans, and internationalist Republicans that favored strong alliances and not trade wars.

The party’s being run by the Dixiecrats Nixon welcomed. Actual Republicans left long ago. It’s insulting to Lincoln & Roosevelt & Eisenhower that they’re still allowed to call it that.

Can we all agree that Trump is not a nice man? However, he has been, overall, an effective president.

I once thought as Carmen did. But I don’t see the Republican Party coming back from its debauchery for a long time, so I figured the best thing I can do for it is to vote with my feet. If enough conservatives who care about morals did this, the party would have to do some soul-searching. Unfortunately, I don’t think there are enough such conservatives. Trump is a symptom, not the actual problem.

This may sound counter intuitive, but we should be grateful for Trump. He is showing us what happens when both parties abandon taking care of ordinary people and chase big money instead. Money is important but there are a limited number of rich people and millions of ordinary folk. If you get them mad enough they will elect someone who says, “I will make things better even if I have to destroy the system to do it.” And so we relearn the lesson of the French Revolution, the Fall of Rome, on and on.This will eventually end and we will be a wiser if poorer people because of it. . . . until the next time.

The alternative is ceding control to the Democrats. As much as some of you despise Trump the alternative was Clinton and is Sanders or Warren.

The Democrats have operated on the basis of political pragmatism for many decades and it has served them very well. The GOP has often crippled itself with internal divisions among the several “wings” of the party.

For the first time in decades or longer the Democrats are suffering from rather deep internal divisions. And for the first time ever the GOP is actually exercising pragmatism at the right moment to be of value.

Dislike him, hate him if you will, but at least be honest. Trump the POTUS is pretty much exactly what Trump the Candidate told us he would be. That itself is a rare thing in politics today. Further, he has either accomplished or put in an honest effort to fulfill his campaign promises. Again, an accomplishment we rarely see.

I don’t like the way he does things but I do like most of what he does. I definitely do not want to see any of the Dem candidates in the Oval Office. I do NOT agree with their vision or their plans.

donny is just the final nail in the Gop’s coffin. Without fossil fuels, they are obsolete and will be gone soon. Poor Carmen will be a democrat when President Sanders ushers in a new party!

Scott continues backpedaling and denying his political choices had any hand in the creation of the modern GOP.
