While not a perfect parallel, our present situation might be compared to certain elements in “The Frogs,” a Greek comedy by Aristophanes.

There are threats to democracy, both internal and external. Athenians are seeing an erosion of their rights. In the past, oligarchies have dominated the government and have persecuted citizens unfairly.

I find it ironic that the Republicans want to hide the trial from the public after screaming that the Democrats – which included Republican representatives – held their hearings in a secure room which our brave Republican members – waving their iPhones – stormed illegally. Republicans don’t mind cheating and lying as long as it gives them the government and power.
