The whole butterfly flap story is fiction. The original was based on how limited data affects models. If you only had 100 data stations providing data, the data from 1 station was so important that odd data, like a “butterfly flap”, could make your “weather model” predict a hurricane. There is valid chaos theory about systems where small changes can result in large effects, but weather is not one of them.
