“Do you solemnly swear that in all things appertaining to the trial of the impeachment of Donald John Trump, president of the United States, now pending, you will do impartial justice according to the Constitution and laws, so help you god?” This was the oath administered by Chief Justice Roberts to each U.S. senator yesterday. Senators who have publicly stated that they will disregard any and all evidence presented in the trial because they are convinced of President Trump’s innocence are violating this oath and need to be removed by Chief Justice Roberts from the presiding body. He has the power to do so although he can be overruled by a Senate vote, which would be indicative of further violations. Write your senators and urge that these past statements be entered into the record and brought to Chief Justice Roberts’ attention.
Last evening I went to my Senator’s website, filled in my name and address, and told Sen. Cornyn that his vote in the trial of the President would determine how he would be remembered by history and to make the correct decision.
Marsha Blackburn says all Dem Senators in the primary should recuse themselves because they are biased. I’ll agree to that if McConnell recuses himself since he has already said he will violate his oath of office by coordinating and cooperating with Trump. Plus Rand Paul needs to recuse himself for threatening incumbent Repubs with opposition from the RNC if they vote to have witnesses. Now that the threat is out there, all Repub Senators running for re-election should be recused too.
The Republicans in congress are doing their job. Their intention is to keep everything just as it is, unless they can manage to return to the “good old days” of the 19th century, before there was a middle class and when only the landed gentry were voters. They love Trump because he is giving them a Supreme Court that will further those goals for the next 20 years or so, and using Executive privilege to support their agenda. They know he is corrupt, and know he is a liar, and they know his sanity is really questionable—- and that’s just fine with them, as long as he is furthering their goals. And, they have a great strategy for accomplishing this: 1. Disenfranchise everyone you possibly can, unless they are dependable Republican voters. 2. Produce ads and media emphasis which emphasizes those politicians who are corrupt and incompetent. This undermines the people’s trust in their government and makes them feel like helpless pawns, so they tune out the whole process and accept the status quo. 3. Support the “job creators”, who have managed their affairs so that they are the recipients of a huge portion of the GNP, although that GNP was produced by working people, who are receiving less benefit from it every day. This gives them the money to accomplish the other two goals, and leaves everyone except the “job creators” with increasingly less money to mount a counter campaign. 4. Having supported the “job creators”, expect them to return the favor by financing Republican candidates, since there aren’t enough Middle Class people stupid enough to do it. So, this is the way we are going lose the Middle Class and become a country inhabited only by the very rich 1%, and a 99% who are too busy working two jobs to survive to notice.
“The Party of Lincoln” (that’s “Honest Abe” we’re talking about), is a complete abomination of all that he stood for and all that our country was built upon.
