I remember the headline after Bill Clinton not only didn’t get ⅔ of the Senate voting to convict, he got “NOT EVEN A MAJORITY”, and the Democrats went on to say that this amounted to complete exoneration. Here it comes again. The main difference is that Clinton was already in his 2nd term and prohibited by the Constitution from running for re-election.
“Do you solemnly swear that in all things appertaining to the trial of the impeachment of Donald John Trump, president of the United States, now pending, you will do impartial justice according to the Constitution and laws, so help you god?” This was the oath administered by Chief Justice Roberts to each U.S. senator yesterday. Senators who have publicly stated that they will disregard any and all evidence presented in the trial because they are convinced of President Trump’s innocence are violating this oath and need to be removed by Chief Justice Roberts from the presiding body. He has the power to do so although he can be overruled by a Senate vote, which would be indicative of further violations. Write your senators and urge that these past statements be entered into the record and brought to Chief Justice Roberts’ attention.
Clinton’s biggest offense was perjury. He should have been convicted. I’m not GOP, but an independent. Perjury by government officials should be a capital crime.
The main difference is that Clinton’s “crime” was a private affair between consenting adults – and had nothing to do with his office. The sleazebags who pursued him in a GENUINE “witch hunt” are still with us – the odious Mr. Starr is even now involved in defending the criminal who is the current “occupant of the White House” – and whose sexual activities should have disqualified him from even running. If this be “whataboutism”, make the most of it .

As David Brin says, the entire defense consists of:
Don’t look at the evidence!

I can only imagine how immune Trump will feel after he is exonerated by Mitch’s “Show Trial”. You thought he was bad before, just wait.

The things you have to do to support a person who not only lost the popular vote but also popular opinion regarding his impeachment.

Protective Coating – {3 beats/line}
They wear a protective coating
to help them survive the next voting
despite the havoc they’re promoting.
… Coda:
We’ll see their white-wash wash off,
while to Bernie our hats we’ll doff.

Defeat Trump – {limerick}
Weary we grow, and then wearier
that Trump is so dadgum’ inferior,
and with motives ulterior.
It couldn’t be drearier.
Bernie would make us feel cheerier.

Seeing the whitewash makes me think this was before “Tom Sawyer” was banned from public libraries.

(An Imitation of “When Sammy Put the Paper on the Wall”)
“When Donny Slopped the Whitewash on His Call”
When Donny slopped the whitewash on his call,
It started the impeachment process brawl.
He struck back via Twitter,
It made the MAGAs bitter,
But impeachment passage he could not forestall.
.
When Donny slopped more whitewash on his call,
The paint dripped down and many took a fall.
And although he’s been so clever,
His support now begins to sever
Since Donny slopped more whitewash on his call.
.
When Donny tried to claim it’s all a hoax,
He might fool a lot of naive folks.
But as more details emerge,
Consensus may converge
His denials have been badly spoken jokes.
.
And now the Senate votes on his removal,
That takes two-thirds to make it an approval.
Although they swore a solemn oath,
Many said they’re very loathe
To have their firm opinions changed at all.
