being pathetic, Calvin, is constantly testing your parents’ patience

I like the way Calvin’s parents act like real parents.

Let a kid have five more minutes and the next thing you know, he’s watching Conan.

Addictions are pathetic, even though I am sympathetic. Don’t let some stupid TV control your imagination. Let it rip, even if you only make some perverted snowmen.

That’s probably why I became a fan of sports. “Mom it’s the two minute warning, the football game is almost over.” Bought myself 15 more minutes. Basketball games going to triple overtime. And oh, the baseball games that went past 12 innings, stretching from late summer nights into early morning.

I don’t like watching commercials. When they air I usually channel surf. If this doesn’t work I either mute the sound or spend time on my phone until normal viewing returns. Recording TV and watching later gives you the opportunity to fast forward.

Wait until morning. Calvin will use the same “few more minutes” thing again.

And then the next morning he’ll be pleading for 15 mins more sleep. I do that, myself.

Yes, that was pretty pathetic, Calvin!

Nowadays its the same thing with social media. Harder to turn off though.

I love the TV jumping from all the pandemonium.

At least Calvin admits a problem. Maybe a step in the right direction.

Pathetic is right! And…it reminds me of myself today! Sigh…

when 6, I wasn’t allowed to listen to The Lone Ranger on my Pilot radio at 7:30pm. So I waited until my parents had tucked me in & gone downstairs in our Chatham NJ home. Found the Lone Ranger on Short Wave half an hour later. Sound quality not as good as AM. One night up close to radio with volume way down listening to “The Shadow” dial light blinked off at a moment. Parents had cut power knowing I was listening to the radio. Of course younger brothers were later allowed to stay up to 8:30 looking at TV.

Kudos for the moment of self awareness.

Cal will love the days of binge watching. “Oh what the heck, one more episode of The Wire. I can make it on two hours sleep today”.

Typically, I remember the commercial but not the product.

Love the TV levitating with commercial sound!

At least it wasn’t his favorite “gun commercial” :)
