I’ve already gotten six, or is it seven, and will be happy to lend you some.

Of all the places to put a mailbox for a pirate ship …

The mailbox doubles as a navigational buoy in non-frozen conditions.

The lettuce and broad bean harvests are just starting here, the oranges should be picked in the next few weeks.

If I ever got a seed catalog I would probably just bury it. (If Steven Wright never said that, at least I did.)

I got my tree catalog already. Got Asian Pear trees last year thinking of Kiwi this year.

I got the seeds I ordered last week – Anaheim, jalapeño, cayenne and habenero chilis and piper nigrum (from which you get black, red, green and white peppers). I need to go and buy some pots and potting soil and get them sown soon.

Our friends the rabbits have expectations, too.

Reminds me of my grandfather when I was little, he got Gurney’s, Park’s and Burpee catalogs. By the middle of February they were all dog eared and he had written dozens of pages of notes.

I’m for that! Can’t wait to plant my tomatoes, snap peas, and watch my strawberries blossom!

I’m confused. Why on earth would anybody yearn for spring when everything is covered in a beautiful blanket of snow?

The seed catalogues HAVE been going out in droves, since New Year’s Day. I see thousands of them in transit. Maybe Charlie forgot to get on the mailing list.

Absolutely. I’ve been counting down to spring for what feels like months, and can’t wait for it to arrive.

I’m looking at planting spinach this afternoon, if the bed isn’t frozen. Let the spring snows water it.

A long and lonely trek to the mailbox made cheerless without the advent of those first spring catalogues.

Wow! I used to get seed catalogs by the dozen this time of year. Since reading the comments, I have come to realize I haven’t received one in years. I buy locally now and don’t have a large garden anymore.

It’s such a bummer reading this strip in the winter. Some of us actually like this season, but Mr. Dunham can’t stop insulting and complaining about it all year long.
