When you have a snow day, it’d be best not to celebrate it on your parents’ tummy.

The world is your oyster and your dad is your trampoline. Luckily, he can’t stay awake for more than 30 seconds. Regardless!

My school district did not have snow days. They would announce that it was too hazardous to run the busses but we were still responsible for being there on time.

I remember those days. The days when an unexpected day off was an excuse for a day out and a movie. sigh…

Can’t you you find a better place to celebrate?

When I was growing up snow days would last for a week or more out in the country where snowplows didn’t exist!!

Just wait until they get the news that an extra day will be added at the end of the school year to make up the day.

Snow days were fun when I was little.

Husband was exec director of a day mental health program/school for children. He was the one who had to get up early and decide if it closed if it snowed or was going to snow heavily. Unlike a regular school district, children came to the program from up to 5 different counties and staff from 4 of those counties, so the decision had to be made early in the morning so no one started to go to the program before he canceled for the day. We are not morning people. Problem was that if he kept waking up or stayed up to check and the program did not close for snow – he had to go to work despite being exhausted and tired from finding if he should close or not. I was self employed by that time and could (and normally did in general) sleep in. So we came up with a system where I would stay up and see when the listings for the local districts would start to show up how quickly and how many of them showed up on the local TV news channels – if a large number of them were closing, I would wake him to close, if no one or one or two of them were closing, I let him sleep until he had to wake up as he would not be closing.

Worst though is since he quit his job and is home with me all the time. I used to use the days when it snowed and he went to work to catch up on stuff in the house. As a result of the years of deciding to open or not he has become weather phobic and I have to sit with him all day and often – literally, sit holding his hand all day if it is snowing at all, other big storms coming, etc. and get nothing done, just as I don’t get things done normally as he needs to go out every day and waste our time walking in stores.
