Gunther is absolutely right. If the pictures bother you, weird you out or otherwise make you uncomfortable Luann, then DON’T LOOK AT THEM! And don’t try to use them as an excuse for your own atrocious behavior.
What did Bets show over social media that was so intimate? Passionate kisses as far as we can tell. This is hardly sexting which would be illegal and subject to prosecution for illegal pornography. Luann’s gossiping implicated sexual contact, sexual intimacy. That verges on defamation if not true. Which by the way, if Luannverse law is anything like real US law, that would mean it probably is true. But no shots of them having sex, just kissing. So who is the bad guy/girl here? What are the limits of privacy? Luann thinks that what she sees as intimacy is “weird” as shown on her phone, but is her interest in if they are ’doing it" and her gossiping starting with Les a sign of something more? What are her true motives and why? As a friend, jealousy, desire? That, still is the question.

Know who else violated Gunth’s privacy? Betts. When Gunth first became aware of the “Betts & Gunth Show”, he was not all that thrilled about it but did not raise any serious objection. At that time. Presumably he was concerned that the kind of thing that did happen, could happen.
My prediction: Gunth & Betts are going to have a serious conversation about “The Show”. Several possible resolutions there and no real way to know which one we’ll get until after we actually get it.
Did Tiff do Gunther a disservice in creating and spreading a rumor? Certainly.
Did Luann do Gunther a disservice? Yes, she made the biggest mistake in this whole sorry mess by trying to find out something that was none of her business.
Did Betts do Gunther a disservice? Yes, she took what Gunther apparently thought were private moments and spread them on the internet. This seems pretty much the same thing that Luann did in terms of “quality” if not “quantity”.
Did Gunther do Gunther a disservice? Yes. As soon as he became aware that Betts was spreading their private moments to the public, and if he was uncomfortable with it, he should have had a chat with Betts then and there, instead of waiting until after the saga so completely unfurled.
Of course, then we would not have had a couple of weeks to stew about this…

What is done with it and specifically said about it is a reaction. But that reaction crosses a line when it spills over into spying, or stalking. They are interested in the reactions, but what strangers think is not going to have the same impact with the content provider as what personal friends think or do. But friends especially should not cross a line: Luann crossed that line.
If you do not like a book don’t read it. You don’t get to tell the author not to write it. If they did not have people following them they would stop because of lack of activity from the reactors. They provide content many people want to see. Heck they were recognized.
IF you do not like a movie, or a TV show, you don’t watch it. IF you are curious about the SHOW, you look up information about it , or a cast member or author bio.

Wow Guther’s REALLY pissed at Luann. He’s letting her have it with both barrels. But i don’t blame him, Luann spent YEARS competing with Tiffany to see who could have the most popular boyfriend. Reading some of these comments, I’m glad I don’t have most of you as friends. You’re acting as if Luann is some stranger to Gunther. They’ve known each other for a majority of their lives. I’m sure there’s personal info that they each have on each other that know one else knows.
So why wouldn’t Luann be curious about her close friend’s life? I’d put a wager down that if it were two close guy friends, they’d be high fiving each other over the pictures. Where’s the difference?
She cares about him and she wants to know if he’s happy. I think it’s more telling that Gunther’s pissed that she did ask around. He’s not angry at her, he’s angry about something else that’s a lot more interesting.
I think it’s irrational to expect personal pics posted on social media for all to see would not spark questions from friends that essentially wonder what’s up with that. Once you hit post…you have no control over what happens next. Gun acts like she was watching them through a peep hole.

YES! THANK you Greg! Just as I thought, Gunther knows what Bets is posting and DOESN’T CARE. He’s perfectly fine with it! Just because a couple posts pictures of them together, does not give you the right to snoop in their personal business. That’s like a 11-yr old girl posting a ton of pictures of herself and then some guy start stalking her and tries to excuse it by saying she asked for it by posting pics. In other words, Luann is essentially blaming the victim for HER actions.
I wonder how much of Gunther’s seeming indifference to Bets’ intimate postings in panel 1 is in deference to his (supposed) girlfriend. Recall that on this past February Greg (via Luann) described Gunther as: “100% pure gentleman. Respectful, decent, kind, honorable.”
In every other situation, including the very first photo of him supposedly wearing Tiff underwear, Gunther has expressed real discomfort with Bets’ sharing.
Somehow I get the feeling that somewhere down the line Gunther and Bets will come to an agreement that they’re not the ones meant for each other. And the way Greg’s story tend to play out, when Gunther becomes single, both Luann ands Tiffany will be seeing someone else.
When posting all those convention photos, Bets was very upbeat and reactions seemed positive, Gunther seemed overwhelmed, but didn’t complain much. Then more personal photos were posted. We only saw Luann and Bernice’s reactions. Wondering if there were other negative posts or comments to Bet’s posts. If everything was so upbeat with Bets’s posts to Gunther’s thinking, maybe he wasn’t ready for any negative reaction. Gunther has seemed to be a sensitive person. There’s something else going on with him, not just Luann’s snooping and TIff’s gossiping.

There is no excuse for Luann’s behavior. All you people who claim anyone who saw the pictures would wonder and speculate——maybe true.
But Luann went far beyond wondering and speculating, she deliberately went out trying to dig up dirt on someone who was a friend. (hate to see how she’d treat her enemies) And don’t give me the “she was concerned about him” crap. If she was so concerned, she would have went to him directly. Unless she’s decided to forget about a teaching career and become a paparazzi, there is no excuse for her actions, and her lame floundering around and trying to shift blame just makes her look bad. She should just admit she screwed up and apologize already.
Seems to me this is either going to turn into a life lesson for Luann or friendship breakup. Maybe both. Maybe neither. Depends on the writer. The question that intrigues me most though, is why IS Luann feeling “weird” about Gunther’s (and Babs’s) pics? Inquiring minds want to know…
Remember way back when??? Bets has been concerned (jealous???) of Gunther’s relationship with Luann. She’s showing “Gun” off like her prize peacock. What if she find that there is another peahen in the garden. Is Greg setting up a confrontational crisis?
Issues yet resolved: Gun’s degree of discomfort with Bets’ social postings. Bets’ degree of comfort with Gunther’s female friends (there has been a lot of intimacy with both Tiffany and Luann). Luann’s true feelings for Gunther (buddy or boudoir?).
This is just getting good! If Greg will let it. :o)
Luann has known Gunther since they were children. She’s always looked at him as “the Ugly Duckling”. Now, all of a sudden, he’s a beautiful swan. She’s going to have to get used to the change. It isn’t easy because Gunther always had a huge crush on Luann, and now he’s evolving into a red hot lover—of other people. Changing long held perceptions taxes the brain.
I am still happy that Gunther is handling this frustrating situation with Luann pretty well. I am quite disappointed in Luann’s responses without yet offering an apology. It may be weird for Luann when she views the Bets & Guns social media site… but Gunther is exactly right…. if she gets weirded out by it…. do not view it.
As far as I gather…. Bets is by far the more adventurous in terms of social media of the pair…. but it feels/seems like she has gotten Gunther used to the photos and “fans” to a degree. But…. that is something Bets and Guns would need to discuss together if there are to be changes….. it should not in any way involve Luann.

One thing I would like to just mention…. I am not really particularly fond of the way Greg draws Gunther’s negative expressions. Compared to how he draws others in the comic with negative emotions… he seems to have Gunther’s look more harsh and severe. I think this is a bit of disservice to Gunther’s character…. I think the harsh way Greg draws Gun’s negative expressions makes it very possible for folks to think of Gunther as mean and nasty as a lot of folks have said often since he returned from Peru.
Lu, you can’t win. Just say your sorry, you should have just went to him with your concerns originally. Unfollow and delete him and Bets of all social media. Leave him and Bets to their followers.
She could say … “We don’t talk like we used to; this is my only way to be with you.” or she will say “so don’t post”.. and they will get into an argument.
I get the feeling this is going to end poorly, as in no more “Bets and Gun”- at least, as an online presence. Perhaps entirely, though that would be silly. Likely, but still silly. Gunther just needs to vocalize his discomfort with it. This is assuming he actually IS discomfited by it. Bets is guilty of nothing. As expected, Luann is trying to defend her snooping. It will probably be effective, especially if she shows him more intimate pictures he doesn’t know about. It’s true Luann didn’t actually start a rumor on purpose, but she never should have asked such a thing of anyone but Gunther himself. She has a somewhat reasonable claim that may just be deflection by changing the subject. “This doesn’t seem like you, Gunther. Are you really okay with this kind of attention?” Telling her not to look is just unrealistic.

Today’s discussion leads to a fun thought exercise: do any of you who agree with Trilogy here (and that includes me) that the content provider has full control and viewers have no right to make demands regarding what they should and shouldn’t post, ever think there’s an exception to that rule? I do, and here it is:
When someone posts something that’s an obvious conversation starter, but then flatly refuse to engage in any conversation about it. I’ve seen a lot of it on FB: someone makes a post like “I’m super upset about what happened today! Nobody come on here and ask me about it!!!” At that point I think it’s fair to tell the person that if they didn’t want to go into the slightest detail then what even was the point of the original post?
Your thoughts? This is a friendly thread here: I’m not trying to start an argument, I just want us all to get the benefit of each other’s experiences. Just keep in mind that this conversation is geared towards those who agree with Trilogy in general, as the point is to discuss exceptions to the rule, not debate the validity of the rule itself.
when Bets and Gun were at the festival, I thought (and posted) that the whole arc was going to be about social media and peoples’ addiction to it. Instead, it segued into gossiping and spreading of rumors. Well, in the end it really might end up being a statement about social media and how it can enhance and simultaneously wreck relationships.

Why is this Bet’s, anf for that matter Gunth’s, problem. This is completely Luann’s problem. Total case of jealously. Gunth has a life now that does not revolve around Luann and she cannot accept that. In case you guys haven’t noticed, Gunth is finally starting to grow up and be his own person.

for the first time here Gunther is off sides. Betts puts it out there and L is a friend and curious. Just stop? maybe betts should back off. or needs to understand it is causing talk-but then it’s something she likes.

Pics of them hugging and/or kissing and being goofy is a long way from them having sex. And that’s what Luann and others were gossiping and/or trying to find out about. Bottom line, even if Bets & Gunther are knocking it out 4 times a day, it’s nobody’s business and social media pics of them together doesn’t give anybody the right to snoop further. I’m a little fuzzy on why anyone here is blaming Bets for anything. Gunther finally has a girlfriend who has his same dorky interests and is also hot (if a comic person can be hot?)

Reading some of these comments, I’m glad I don’t have most of you as friends. You’re acting as if Luann is some stranger to Gunther. They’ve known each other for a majority of their lives. I’m sure there’s personal info that they each have on each other that know one else knows.
So why wouldn’t Luann be curious about her close friend’s life? I’d put a wager down that if it were two close guy friends, they’d be high fiving each other over the pictures. Where’s the difference?
She cares about him and she wants to know if he’s happy. I think it’s more telling that Gunther’s pissed that she did ask around. He’s not angry at her, he’s angry about something else that’s a lot more interesting.

I think it’s irrational to expect personal pics posted on social media for all to see would not spark questions from friends that essentially wonder what’s up with that. Lu didn’t ask anything anybody else wouldn’t at least wonder to themselves if they didn’t know their buddy was in that deep with someone else. Human nature doesn’t make her a stalker or a criminal. Once you hit post…you have no control over what happens next. Gun acts like she was watching them through a peep hole.

YES! THANK you Greg! Just as I thought, Gunther knows what Bets is posting and DOESN’T CARE. He’s perfectly fine with it! Just because a couple posts pictures of them together, does not give you the right to snoop in their personal business. That’s like a 11-yr old girl posting a ton of pictures of herself and then some guy start stalking her and tries to excuse it by saying she asked for it by posting pics. In other words, Luann is essentially blaming the victim for HER actions.

I wonder how much of Gunther’s seeming indifference to Bets’ intimate postings in panel 1 is in deference to his (supposed) girlfriend. Recall that on this past February Greg (via Luann) described Gunther as: “100% pure gentleman. Respectful, decent, kind, honorable.”
In every other situation, including the very first photo of him supposedly wearing Tiff underwear, Gunther has expressed real discomfort with Bets’ sharing.
Somehow I get the feeling that somewhere down the line Gunther and Bets will come to an agreement that they’re not the ones meant for each other. And the way Greg’s story tend to play out, when Gunther becomes single, both Luann ands Tiffany will be seeing someone else.

When posting all those convention photos, Bets was very upbeat and reactions seemed positive, Gunther seemed overwhelmed, but didn’t complain much. Then more personal photos were posted. We only saw Luann and Bernice’s reactions. Wondering if there were other negative posts or comments to Bet’s posts. If everything was so upbeat with Bets’s posts to Gunther’s thinking, maybe he wasn’t ready for any negative reaction. Gunther has seemed to be a sensitive person. There’s something else going on with him, not just Luann’s snooping and TIff’s gossiping.

BJShipley summed it up nicely in an earlier post. Luann’s gone from playing the victim, to smugly lying, to trying to shift blame. Luann: “Oh but look at these pictures, Gunth. The pictures made me do it.”
It’s Luann’s version of the Twinkie Defense.
There is no excuse for Luann’s behavior. All you people who claim anyone who saw the pictures would wonder and speculate——maybe true.
But Luann went far beyond wondering and speculating, she deliberately went out trying to dig up dirt on someone who was a friend. (hate to see how she’d treat her enemies) And don’t give me the “she was concerned about him” crap. If she was so concerned, she would have went to him directly. Unless she’s decided to forget about a teaching career and become a paparazzi, there is no excuse for her actions, and her lame floundering around and trying to shift blame just makes her look bad. She should just admit she screwed up and apologize already.

Issues yet resolved: Gun’s degree of discomfort with Bets’ social postings. Bets’ degree of comfort with Gunther’s female friends (there has been a lot of intimacy with both Tiffany and Luann). Luann’s true feelings for Gunther (buddy or boudoir?).

Luann has known Gunther since they were children. She’s always looked at him as “the Ugly Duckling”. Now, all of a sudden, he’s a beautiful swan. She’s going to have to get used to the change. It isn’t easy because Gunther always had a huge crush on Luann, and now he’s evolving into a red hot lover—of other people. Changing long held perceptions taxes the brain.

I am still happy that Gunther is handling this frustrating situation with Luann pretty well. I am quite disappointed in Luann’s responses without yet offering an apology. It may be weird for Luann when she views the Bets & Guns social media site… but Gunther is exactly right…. if she gets weirded out by it…. do not view it.
As far as I gather…. Bets is by far the more adventurous in terms of social media of the pair…. but it feels/seems like she has gotten Gunther used to the photos and “fans” to a degree. But…. that is something Bets and Guns would need to discuss together if there are to be changes….. it should not in any way involve Luann.
* * * *One thing I would like to just mention…. I am not really particularly fond of the way Greg draws Gunther’s negative expressions. Compared to how he draws others in the comic with negative emotions… he seems to have Gunther’s look more harsh and severe. I think this is a bit of disservice to Gunther’s character…. I think the harsh way Greg draws Gun’s negative expressions makes it very possible for folks to think of Gunther as mean and nasty as a lot of folks have said often since he returned from Peru.

I get the feeling this is going to end poorly, as in no more “Bets and Gun”- at least, as an online presence. Perhaps entirely, though that would be silly. Likely, but still silly. Gunther just needs to vocalize his discomfort with it. This is assuming he actually IS discomfited by it. Bets is guilty of nothing. As expected, Luann is trying to defend her snooping. It will probably be effective, especially if she shows him more intimate pictures he doesn’t know about. It’s true Luann didn’t actually start a rumor on purpose, but she never should have asked such a thing of anyone but Gunther himself. She has a somewhat reasonable claim that may just be deflection by changing the subject. “This doesn’t seem like you, Gunther. Are you really okay with this kind of attention?” Telling her not to look is just unrealistic.

Hello everyone! Today’s discussion leads to a fun thought exercise: do any of you who agree with Trilogy here (and that includes me) that the content provider has full control and viewers have no right to make demands regarding what they should and shouldn’t post, ever think there’s an exception to that rule? I do, and here it is:
When someone posts something that’s an obvious conversation starter, but then flatly refuse to engage in any conversation about it. I’ve seen a lot of it on FB: someone makes a post like “I’m super upset about what happened today! Nobody come on here and ask me about it!!!” At that point I think it’s fair to tell the person that if they didn’t want to go into the slightest detail then what even was the point of the original post?
Your thoughts? This is a friendly thread here: I’m not trying to start an argument, I just want us all to get the benefit of each other’s experiences. Just keep in mind that this conversation is geared towards those who agree with Trilogy in general, as the point is to discuss exceptions to the rule, not debate the validity of the rule itself.

when Bets and Gun were at the festival, I thought (and posted) that the whole arc was going to be about social media and peoples’ addiction to it. Instead, it segued into gossiping and spreading of rumors. Well, in the end it really might end up being a statement about social media and how it can enhance and simultaneously wreck relationships.
