Italians had a rather different sense of humour back in Dante’s day.
During Dante’s period, comedy meant a type of satire or examination of ideas, not humor.
Well, Horace, that because it is written in Latin…!
Comic originally didn’t mean humor. And illustrated strips in comics weren’t expected to be funny. At least not with out some social message.
I’m sure Dante got a lot of laughs figuring out where to put all of his enemies (and what to do to them).
They never published Dante’s Divine Tragedy. And I can understand why.
Now I want to know the two things in there that Horace did laugh at.
