Before 9/11, I used to generally admire how dedicated Islamics were toward their religion. No frills, no commercialism. Today, I still feel embarrassed before other major religions how we Christians (American Christians, anyway) have allowed ourselves to have devolved, and surrendered to excessive consumerism during the second-most important celebration of Christ.

Just remember that the real reason for the season is the winter solstice.

Most dedicated capitalists will tell you there’s no profit in peace. Jesus’ birthday was in the Spring and had nothing to do with trees, holly, mistletoe, sleigh rides, Yule logs, or any of that other stuff. The Pagan Winter Solstice holiday was co-opted by Christians to gain conversions and make Christianity more popular. That holiday was then co-opted by capitalists to make it more profitable for themselves.
