Standard poodles are one of the best water dogs (retrievers) there are. Our Jill could swim the flood stage Green River in Washington at flood stage like it was a swimming pool! Another misrepresented breed.

You’d figure it would be hunting the dog groomer that did that.

Poodles started as duck retrievers – that was the reason for the haircut originally.

My poodle is extremely intelligent, she watches ingredients coming out of refrigerator and if I grab something she doesn’t like she will bark at me if I put on counter she walks away lol, I had a lab that was an excellent retriever and my Rachel is much better than he was . My only drawback I feel owned she’s so smart lol

Back in the late sixties a man broke into a house in Malibu Beach, and confronted the woman at home. After the dog got between her and the attacker the woman of the house called the police. The police arrived and found the bloodied man in a corner trying to fend off the dog.

He went to prison in conjunction that attempted burglary and a number of other burglaries, went to prison, and had to have four surgeries to restore “more or less” mobility.

Toy poodles will defend their owner— even if it was limited to knee and ankle attacks until the attacker fell.

I knew a standard poodle once; a mass of dreadlocks & one of the finest dawgs of my acquaintance. One day his owner got him one of those stupid haircuts – he quite literally sulked from embarrassment for months until it grew back; always a friendly, outgoing pup, he would slink into the corner of any room he entered and cover his head with his forepaws. Seriously.

Anytime you see a poodle clipped like that, it should be reported to the SPCA.

We aren’t dog people (we’re cat staff), but if we were to choose a dog… and for some reason not from the pound… I would want a standard poodle or a Vizsla: Smart, neither big nor tiny and hypo-allergenic.
