Really depends on where you live and work.

This is a great point on cultural evolution. In most places getting a drivers license isn’t the rite of passage it used to be. My kids took their time getting theirs too. While we used to drive to friends’ homes to hang out in their basements, mine still do that but only maybe a third as much; hanging out in groups online where you can see and hear each other and even watch movies and play video games together is just as good. And to my kids’ point, unless you absolutely have no other option (like public transportation) for getting to and from a daily job and where you’re going is farther than a walk or bike ride, it’s cheaper to just Uber when you need to and not have a car payment, insurance payment, gas, maintenance costs, etc.

Wow That is a huge step! I remember back in 1971 the billboard offered houses starting at 17 thousand dollars, today that might cover a new car today or at least a good down payment… maybe a app instead of a car is not such a bad idea?

Even if he doesn’t plan to own a car, there’s no way Caulfield’s not smart enough to get the joke. He’s just being mean to Mr. Spaetzle.

He’ll regret not having a car eventually, unless he lives somewhere with everything nearby his home.

I gave up my license 20 yrs ago. I was newly disabled, nervous about driving, my mom and brother drove me where I needed to go, and a driver’s license is expensive.

Now, mom and brother both passed away 5 years ago, roommates will drive me – eventually, and public transportation is difficult with a walker. I’m getting that license back as soon as I get the money! Life is too short to spend it waiting on a ride.

was amazed to discover that Lyft has a presence in my itty-bitty rural town. Less amazed to discover that there’s only the one driver. And totally flummoxed that he says he actually makes a (retiree’s) living at it. I suspect he’s not keeping track of maintenance costs, just fuel replacement.

I don’t know a thing about baseball. But I’m not going to let that stop me from pretending I do. Why be different from everybody else?

Sometimes, you serve up a really easy pitch that’s just a little too easy, and you hope the batter lets it go or fouls it off. Or does something that keeps him at the plate just long enough that you can throw the real one past him.
