Both my husband & I have tower computers – he has two that he uses. One of his & mine are Win 7. We also have laptops – this one is Win 10, I hate it & only bought it (last December) as Win XP I used for work (as opposed to one I used for personal online) had a battery that would cost as much as a laptop to replace & was down to less than 2 hour life – the main client I needed it for had an outlet I could use – behind her safe – so I had to buy a special extension cord (3 prong, flat plug) & stand with flashlight to see what I was doing or would still be using it & be much happier as strange windows never opened at random on my older laptops & I did not have to sit & bang on the pad to make it work. He has 3 tablets – all unused as they are worthless & cannot do anything he wants to do with them – like check email.
My 90 yo mom started desktop computers at work. My sister, her husband, and us would update a computer for mom at home giving her whichever one we were replacing. She loved it using to surf the web and send email – with absolutely no problems. My sister & BIL bought her a tablet computer – she cannot do either. She tells me that if send her email it takes 2 weeks to get to her. Computers are much better than tablets!
Yes, we still have copper wire telephone service. Why? Well, after Hurricane Sandy our Internet was down – so we would have not have telephone service to check on mom (at her home) or either of my sisters. Ah, but you say, you could call with your cell phone. Cell phone towers were down – no cell service on two different major carriers. Copper wire phone worked straight through the entire aftermath of the storm. We could not talk to mom unless she called us as she had Internet phone and does not keep her cell phone on – especially since she could not recharge it at home. She went to a nearby community that had its own electric plant and therefore electricity and ate dinner out in same to recharge and would call us then.

My phone rests on my obsolete computer tower. And yes, it is a landline. I have an internet phone line. Plus a cell phone.
