Sorry to run late; things kept me busy all day. There’s just the one big block of text to transcribe. Here goes:
Willie Winkie took me down to the cliff to see the giants. We climbed upon a funny round chalky rock, which wore a tangle of green seagrass for a wig, and Williewinks [sic] would give me no rest until I had sketched some of the strange shapes he pointed out.
There were all kinds of giants there, in a long row, and they look, some of them, very frowning and severe.
Up above, in the deep blue sky, white clouds were continually appearing over the cliff-heads and sailing lustily out to sea. They acted the funniest scenes you could imagine, and it was as good as a theater. One cross old Aunty-Cloud ran after a Piggie-Cloud and couldn’t manage to catch up to it at all.
Further along the coast there was an assembly of giants around a cave in the cliffs, but Willie thought they looked entirely too grumpy, so we didn’t stay there long.
All at once he said: ``Look at ze big ol’ dragon-rock an’ ze pretty lady!’’ And there, sure enough, was a tall piece of cliff standing out from the rest, and it had the exact form of a friendly-looking hippogriffin with outstretched wings, mounting guard over a fair princess.
As the evening shadows crept on, and the sun began to dip its hot face into the sea, we saw a queer old fisher-boat drifting slowly along. It came closer and closer to Mr. Sun, pointing its bowsprit right at his face. At last it covered him right up entirely, and after it had passed the spot there was no sun to be seen.
Willie Winkie said that the boat had stolen the sun, and perhaps that is what had happened.
