Lester seldom fails to amaze me at how deluded, ignorant, and wrong he is. If there are many who find him cogent, informed or correct, I do fear me for our country.
Mike was born in 1955, so never got to experience a progressive Republican, except as a very young child. He saw the Democratic party move from progressive to Republican-lite and the political center virtually disappear. We are strongly influenced by the environment we grew up in and quite obviously Mike is more skilled at evoking emotions than critical thinking. His vision of America likely does not align with most Americans, but I would not like to see it blocked. On the other hand, we KNOW that in this forum that it is opinion but that is not the case for OPINIONS on Facebook, YouTube, etc.
Actor Rob Schneider just tweeted: “Sorry to have to repeat this again: Free Speech is ALL speech. Even the speech you find repugnant. You are either for ALL of it or you are for none of it. We don’t need people deciding FOR us what to think, see or hear. That’s a load of totalitarian [expletive].”
Sasha Baron Cohen gave a great speech at an awards gala presented by the Anti-Defamation League. Google his name and it will lead you to a link to watch his speech. Very telling.
The rise of un-regulated Social Media is not unlike the opening of Pandora’s Box. While this new technology has its positive uses, it has instead unleashed millions of voices spewing racial intolerance, hatred, political and personal falsehoods, and conspiracy theories which would never have found a newspaper, magazine, radio or TV airtime 30 years ago. No editor or programming manager would have allowed such blatant obscenity, hatred or unfounded accusations in their publications. Now, we have to live with it.
The issue behind the issue is,… these are all commercial platforms that are profiting from, and facilitating in, the dissemination of false and fabricated information. There is a difference in being able to express your opinion, while not being suppressed by the government, and paid speech..
Stand on your soap box, print your own paper, make your own web domain… all protected free speech. Commercial media can say anything they want in an editorial opinion… What it can not do is publish false or illegal content in exchange for payment. In this case, it’s not what you say, but where you say it…
I respect people’s right to say things that I find offensive. I respect people’s right to be Nazis, white supremacists, Communists, Socialists, Fascists, and members of Antifa. I think every one if these groups are idiots, but people have the right be idiots.

Hate speech and slander are not protected by The Constitution, no matter how much Alex Jones and Mike Lester wish it were so.

In most countries, free speech does not extend to spreading lies and hatred.

Lester is right; Free Speech means we can tell all the lies we wish and never be held accountable. Nyah nyah!

Free Speech does not mean free platforms to spew it from.
