Don’t worry Lucy, he’ll change his mind when he’s an adult.

Guess Lucy doesn’t believe in art for art’s sake.

In other words, he has no intention of taking after Liberace and Cliburn.

When has Schroder ever said he wanted to be rich and famous?

Today’s strip reminds me of the time of my yearly job review at my old job. My boss asks me want I want from my job. I said “I don’t care about promotions. I just want to be happy in what I do and to get a yearly raise based on my job performance”. The boss said I was the first person to ever say that to him and kind of chuckle.

Truly. My older daughter fell in love with the violin when she was 2. When she was in 4th grade she got the opportunity for free lessons. She’ a junior in high school now, still plays, still practices every day (sometimes she’ll stay after school to practice), and still loves it. She doesn’t want to be a famous violinist…she just plays for the joy of it.

All work and no fame makes Schroeder the same.

Great strip. For me the joy has always been in playing golf.

Plenty of musicians play for the love of music. Making money from it is just a bonus…

I’d argue that Schroeder is the most famous pianist in the world.

If the joy isn’t in the playing or writing or painting or singing, then whatever success you have won’t be worth it. If all you want is money, get a business degree and get a standard job.

My hands are so small, I don’t have the finger spread to play well. You know Schroeder’s piano plays, “plink, plink, plink” don’t you?

“Good things come to those who wait.” Well, Lucy came to Schroeder, so how true could it be?
