That will only work if he’s Varangian (Swedish). If he’s Danish or Norse, try playing Led Zeppelin’s Immigrant Song.

“DÖ” in the first frame means “DIE”.

Problem is, they’re trying to calm him in Swedish, but the Viking’s trying to kill them in Danish, which requires a Masters degree in gargling to pronounce. Put down the IKEA catalog, go get a cookbook. Repeat after me: “rødgrød med fløde”.

(And kudos to Jim for the correct, different orthography!)

Read about a similar situation in Harry Harrison’s book Technicolor Time Machine. The solution was to befriend the Viking by offering modern alcohol. Viking era grog didn’t have good quality control.

Don’t let him try to assemble anything. It’ll just make him madder!

I agree with Uncle Bob: wait until he sees how many pieces and amount of time needed for assembly!

Don’t you just wonder what channel the TV was tuned to that set him off like that?

If he says “DØ” then trying to go by IKEA is a bad idea, since “dø” would be Danish or Norwegian. Unless ofc Monty want to indicate to be an enemy.

If he spoke old norse he would’ve said “Deyja!”, “dó” would be past tense. Ø was not in use before earliest around 1150 in Norway. This person is most likely a visiting Viking Cosplayer from the nearest comicon.

Will Swedish be close enough to the old Norse?

Death to the TV! And now the Viking turns his attention to the robot and Monty!

Maybe Doc can somehow come the rescue (e.g., pull the Viking back to his own time?)….

Come on, Monty, just try to remember the Swedish chef from the Muppet Show. That’ll help you communicate with him.

    “Börk, börk, börk…”
