Smart move, a dog will smell that steak in a heart beat.

Mt. McNasty gets ready again to claim another victim and it won’t be the guy with the steak!

I used to carry peanut butter satchels in my back pockets, so the dogs would rescue my butt rather than my helmet.

It was an amazing rescue here on, Mt. McNasty! A search dog dug through a 20ft avalanche, to rescue a buried skier…more at 6pm!

Gurus, when my comics freeze up for 10 to 20 seconds, is that due to my poor wifi or the web site?

Better still to try and avoid locations where avalanches are prevalent.

I used to be involved with search and rescue and an important part of my survival kit was doggy treats. Kept some in a pocket, some in my survival vest and some in my survival pack. They train the dogs using treats and I wanted to up the odds they would find me if needed (thankfully, I never ended up as the searched for, but it never hurts to hedge your bets).

The stuff in my pockets were the items I considered absolutely critical and would help me survive and be found, even if I, somehow, ended up in a survival situation without my vest or pack.

And it wasn’t a thing I came up with on my own, I learned the trick early in my training (the early 70’s) from the more experienced team members… and I passed it along to the new guys & gals when ever it was my turn to be the trainer.
