Ref: Coach! She can't play with the earrings. She'll have to take them out. Peri: I just got my ears pierced. I'm not supposed to take the post out yet. Ref: It's a rule. I even had to take all of mine out. Coach Tippit: It's just for the game, Peri. You can put them right back in after the game. Peri: I'm supposed to leave them in for another three weeks. Ref: You can put tape over them. Coach: Tape...I'll find something. Ref: Works for me. Peri: What did he say?

Never seen european footballers with tape on their earrings!

They don’t have our lawyer tradition. A girl in Texas was allowed to tape them up, was kicked, bleed a lot, and her parents sued the referee, the coach, the club, and the field. I told coaches after that no earrings, period. It is sort of not nice that the kid gets ears pierced then signs up for soccer without knowing. The form has five print for the parents to ignore.

Pro footballers are treated differently. No jewelry, not even taped over is allowed. Lazy or misinformed referees make it harder for all the ones trying to do it right. I can give you multiple examples of injuries (without the lawyers that Ivanmann mentioned). The rule states: “A player must not use equipment or wear anything which is dangerous to himself or another player (including any kind of jewelry).”
