Maybe it’s just a matter of civic pride. The original “Thanksgiving junkie”, Sarah Josepha Hale, lived in Philadelphia. She was the editor (“editress” was her preferred title), of “Godey’sLadies’ Book”, one of the most influential magazines of the 19th century. She grew up in New England, which had a Thanksgiving holiday tradition dating back to the 17th century. Outside of New England, however, it was simply unknown. So, Mrs. Hale used the bully pulpit that was her column in the magazine to promote the idea of a national Thanksgiving holiday. She petitioned five presidents to make it official. The first four ignored her. The fifth, Abraham Lincoln, thought it was a great idea to help unify the country. And so, beginning in 1863, Thanksgivingbecame a national observance.

Heart and Dean need to walk over to 9th and Spruce to visit the historic marker for Mrs. Hale’s first Philadelphia home.

That’s what I don’t like about pumpkin spice, they seem to put in EVERYTHING these days. “Too much of a good thing,” as it were.

Here in Canada. (BC) the coffee shops are promoting the Christmas flavours. Our Thanksgiving is in October. The pumpkin flavours are a memory.

Probably when you were having a dream sequence. Actually, since Heart entered middle school after a long-running dream, that might literally be true.
