At the time, my youngest was 8. She wanted to go to the mall. I had had a crummy, rainy day at work, was tired, wet, and broke. I said no, and why. I got “But Daddy!” I said: No. what do you think I am? An ATM? Just push the right buttons on Daddy and money pops out? She thought for a second, gave a little smile, cocked her hip and head in perfect ‘Valley Girl’ pose, and said " Well, Yeah!" I couldn’t help but laugh. We still didn’t go. But that Christmas, I got a T shirt from her, with an ATM printed on it. Buttons for Pizza, Movies, Clothes, cobwebs over the Deposit slot. 20 yrs and I still have the shirt.
